How to find out if it is a quick ratio streeing box and install tips please.

My friend buys wreck f bodys, and fix them or use them fro parts, he has a 89 formula that was wreck a month after it was driven off the dealer floor, I know that car has a quick ratio box but he wants that one, but he also has a 88 iroc that he beleives came with 16 in rims, so My ? is how do I know for sure? and should I change the fluid in it? what do I have to get or do to install it? how hard of a job is it? and do i need to get a alignment after it is done? thanks

16 inch rim cars should have a quick ratio box. The box will have a large Z cast in it.

Want numbers?

I was told a whilllle ago that the quick-ratio box from a 15" wheel'd car has # 7826692 on it. The IROC one (16 inch wheels) I bought had 26000525 and a "Z" on it. One of these days I'll install it!

Where will the Z be? The car I will probably be getting it out is a 88 iroc, And I know that Iroc's in that he also came with 15 inch wheels.

Like Stephen said, it's cast into the steering box. Take a look at yours to get an idea of where the casting number is placed.

install tip: buy a tie-rod end puller ($12) instead of a pickle-fork.

Are the numbers the same on the GTA close ratio box? I have an '89 and I'm not sure if it is quick ratio. Anyone know the ratio numbers these come in? I would like a quicker ratio box.

'89 GTA 350, edelbrock headers, 3" exhaust, Flowmaster muffler, Crane HI-6 ignition. My fast car is a '91 NSX, B&M adjustable fuel pressure regulator, Flowmaster exhaust, no cats, Cantrell Concepts Ram air system. Still love my GTA.

Did the quick ratio come standard on all IROCs?

what year IROC did that come from? I checked that part # and it doesn't seem valid.

It's off an '87 IROC-Z. I was told that number by another thirdgen owner, who pulled the same box off an '89 1LE car.
