Engine: 305
Transmission: 4L60
Axle/Gears: 3.42
How much should this front brake job cost?
Price of: (both sides)
good brake pads (brand)?
Resufacing (what exactly do they do)the rotors?
I fix everything on the car myself, but I'm 18 and will leave the brakes to the pros. I'm going to have them do all the labor, how much should this cost????????

hey vic if you were to come down this way this weekend or sometime i could do them for you. i have done them 3 times to my car.
just an offer. but it cant be till after fri. more like early next week.
and the brakes are really easy to do on our cars. and resurfacing is just as easy to take them to a reputible shop and they grind them flat for the new pads and go with Performance frictions from autozone!

I just put a set of performance friction pads on my Trans Am last weekend, and they work well. I think I paid about $30 for them, plus $1.50 for two packets of disc brake quiet. It's not always necessary to resurface the rotors, only if there are noticeable grooves, warping of the rotor, or dark discoloration on the rotor. The discoloration is usually caused by overheating of the brakes. It is only about $3-$5 at most places to turn (resurface) the rotors.
It took me about an hour and a half to do each side in the front. IMO, it's not a difficult operation and would be better on one's wallet if done themself.
If I were you, I'd take RARE-ROC-Z's offer and let him show you how it's done. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day - TEACH a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime!

I might take you up on that offer Jay. Like I said in the e-mail I'm doing my cat-back tomorrow night. Did you put your Borla on yet, maybe I could do that for you, hollow out your cats, detail your car (I'm the best around), change your spark plugs, wires, I'd make it right somehow.

Then be sure to come back and tell us about how you kicked yourself in the butt for ever thinking of paying a shop to do something so easy. I just did mine yesterday in about 30 minutes (if you don't count the time it takes to jack up and lower the car...hehe).

Fronts are easy. I can do a set of pads on a GM in about 30 mins too. I did my friends mitsubishi in 15 min last month, both sides!
If you can change an alternator, you'll be fine doing disc brakes. You just need to get over the intimidation factor.

But, anyway. Front brakes are easy. I have a shop available to me, and I can do my front brakes in about an hour, including turning both rotors. Rears are a little more interesting. (who ever heard of putting hard lines to parts that have to come off regularly???)

I hate brake jobs... pads are easy, I just hate repacking the bearings- yuck. Plus I use synthetic grease, and that stuff's weird.. it's "sticky" compared to dinosaur grease.

I had to change my front passenger side rotor and brake pad. When I bought the car there was no pad left and the little "tattle-tale" cut into the rotor about 1/4". Me and my dad just sat down and changed it. Simple as could be.
