Stainless Steel Brake Lines

I'm interested in getting a set of the stainless steel flexible brake lines for better pedal feel and durability but I don't know the correct fittings on each end or the overall length since mine are still on the car. Anybody know what the proper fittings are for the two front calipers as well as the single line for the rear on an 1986 Z-28 with factory four wheel disc?

Are you looking to have hoses specially made? If not, I've seen kits by both Russell and Earl's specifically packaged for the 84-92 f-bodies. In fact, Russell kit #692040 is $72 at Summit Racing, and it's for 84-92 f-bodies.

I -believe- this kit works for the disk/drum or disc/disc brake package, but give Summit (or Russell) a call to check.

Thanks but I found what I needed. Alot of places wanted me to give them measurements and fitting types which I couldn't get at right now. I called Classic Tube, www.classictube.com, and they said they had the info on tons of cars. They looked up my car, found the specs for the lines, and said they'd make the lines for me. But thanks again.

Hopefully he did. Rubber hoses, steel lines.

I, too, want the SS brake hoses, but all the kits I've seen only show a 3 hose kit. Mine has 5 flex hoses. 2 in front, 2 in back and the body to axle. I may just order the OEMs and then send them out to Earls to be used to make them.

I wanted and I'm getting stainless steel braided line to replace the rubber lines from the steel hard lines to the calipers. Turns out the guy at classic tube can't make the rear one I need. Something about not having the right tool or something to match up to the fitting so I'm just getting the fronts for now. My car is an 86 so the rear brakes don't work that great anyway after a short time. I'm not going to fix the recall on them b/c one day I will hopefully get bigger wheels and update the whole system. For now the front stainless braided lines with high-po brake pads and ultra high temp fluid will have to do.

"PF Flyer" - the two hoses that run from the body to either side of the brakes are the parking brake lines. The only brake hose is the body to center axle line.

What sucks is the rear discs (82-88) have two soft hoses; one body-to-axle, and one right-caliper-to-axle. I don't think anyone makes that right-caliper-to-axle hose. The left-caliper-to-axle is a steel line... too bad both aren't the same.

Re: Stainless Steel Brake Lines

You'll likely want to keep it rubber (or just flexible in general) to allow movement. Rigid lines are not designed to move very much, so if the car came stock with a flexible hose, you'll very likely be better off just keeping it as a flexible hose.

The OP said Stainless Steel in his title, but he's talking about the braided/flex lines, not rigid. Rigid lines would make steering pretty interesting!
