18 inch rims on a 91' camaro
18 inch rims on a 91' camaro
I have a 1991 camaro RS, with 16 inch rims and 225/60-16 tires. I plan on getting the 18 inch chrone iroc wheels from performance wheel outlet, with comp t/a 245/40-18 tires. The hight and diameter are exaclly the same, so no problems with spedometer being off and up/down movement. But with the 245 with on a 18 inch tire clear my wheelwell. Has anybody tried this size? Will it work?
well, first the diameters are not exactly the same, the 18 inch tire, when mounted, is .46 inches shorter per sidewall than the 16 inch tire. whether that will compensate for the extra 20 mm width of the tread, which is .8 inches wider, i couldnt say, but a 245 tire fits under my wheelwell, so i would say go for it. as for the difference in wheel height, it will most definitely affect your speedometer. assuming an auto with 3.08 gears, at 2400 rpm the 16 inch tire will be trvelling 81.13 mph, the 18 inchers will only be pulling 78.7 mph, a 2 plus mph difference, but enough to get you a ticket.

Hey jawzforlife,
Did you possibly make a typo and mean to say that your tires on the car now are 245/60/16? I thought all 16" stock tires on 89-92 Camaros were that size.
If so, then you will be fine as far as fit. About the only thing you would have to worry about is the offset, back spacing, wheel width, you know, the usual stuff.
That all comes into play when your talking about clearance issues.
