back half project/ need some ideas

hey every one, i just picked up a almost rust free 86 t top camaro that i would like to turn into a pro street car, and need some opinions, i want to run a torque arm suspension.
-what is the ideal trailing arm lengths and torque arm as well,
-what is the measurement frome inner to inner wheel wells
-i would like to run a 13 or 15" wide tire but keep the frame rails as wide as possible for street use
-which frame rails would better suit a torque arm set up 4link or ladder bar.
- would like to make mounts for trailing arm floating on axle tube who makes a good mount

i haven't cut any thing apart yet want to get a plan in place first and start to order some part so i have every thing when the time comes to cut it up and weld new frame in place.

any advice would help out alot i have an idea of how i want to do it but not 100% yet

thanks jason

4 link has no torque arm....

you just want the "look" or actual performance, because judging by your engine info, a stock suspension with aftermarket pieces and a mini tub will fit more tire than you will ever need.

Re: back half project/ need some ideas

i don't want to run 4 link but wondering which frame rails would work best for torque arm set up because from what i have seen they only make the two types.
i haven't updated my info for a while i now have a 414 small block stroker with around 500hp and 600 ft/ib torque and would like to put some spray to it soon, i have after market suspension right now and 29x10" wide slicks and i can't hook up at all at the local track.

If you're going to back half the car, why do you want to stay with a torque arm? 4-link is the way to go. Ladder bars are not very street friendly.

This was my back half project

Re: back half project/ need some ideas

i have trailing arms, adjustable torque arm, pan hard bar. 9 bolt borgwarner with 3:70 gears, 29x10 slicks, best time in the 1/8 is a 7.508 with a 1.80360 ft, 94.14 mph. i woukd like to have my motor dynoed so i know how much power i have because i can't hook up at all spin a good half track in the 1/8

do you have relocation brackets on the LCA mounting points on the rear end? If not order some up and weld them on. What do you have for shocks/struts/springs?

what tire pressure? cold? hot? Does the posi still work? Have you tried rolling into the throttle so you're not just blatantly spinning the entire time. Hate to tell you but with 94mph in the 1/8th I don't know if you're making as much power as you think.

Skip dynoing the motor until you hook what you have. You can EASILY hook the power you make right now even with a 26x10 slick, just need the proper setup.

Re: back half project/ need some ideas

i have a 13.5" wide tire (335/30/18) on my car with just a minitub, stock style suspension. Can for a 14" with the tire flush with the outside of the wheel well too, maybe more

a minitub is enough work as it is, and a backhalf is a heck of a lot more. either way, you will loose the interior, so you have to fab something from scratch, or get out the fiberglass
