front sway bar brackets broke

I have broken 2 front sway bar brackets so far what could I be doing wrong? I have poly bushing would the stiffer bushing be causing it to break has anyone dealt with this. I did replace them again but they are getting hard to find

Re: front sway bar brackets broke

Poly bushings generally come with their own brackets, somewhat like this. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ENS-9-5165G/

Use those instead of the stock ones.

Re: front sway bar brackets broke

you can reinforce the stock bracket with a piece of 12ga steel wrapped and welded to it.

I dont see why they are breaking through, are they bushings the right ones for the 3rd gen or are they universal ones?

Re: front sway bar brackets broke

Interesting as I've never heard of a similar problem.

EDIT: I note the link is to 34 mm bushings. I'd think your car would be equipped with a 36 mm bar.

any chance you've got the part number for the 36 mm ones you bought? i feel a bit slow here, but all the listings I found from ES only go up to 35 for the fbody applications. thanks!

Re: front sway bar brackets broke

they must have been bought a long time ago, because nobody in the world makes a 36mm bushing for our car at the moment. even the ones i bought from TDS 6-8 months ago had to be machined from a 34mm bushing sine no 36's were available anywhere

Re: front sway bar brackets broke

I called summit told them I had a 36mm swaybar they sent me bushings they were very tight around the sway bar. With the bracket tight the bushing did close all the way. Is it posible they sent me 34 instead of 36. I know my old brackets did have rust and the ones I got in Florida were not as rusted

Re: front sway bar brackets broke

the bushings i have are clearly marker with the ES part number and "34mm" on the sides, however, TDS milled them out to 36mm for me.

they fit the mount perfectly, not crammed together. I think you have the wrong bushings and all the extra stress is killing the mounts. And/or the bushings are not meant to fit in the 3rd gen brackets

Re: front sway bar brackets broke

If they broke at the bend more than once, my guess would be that the bushing was not bottomed in the bracket properly, and then the hammering action bent your bracket back and forth enough times to snap it. It's really the only explanation I can see.

Re: front sway bar brackets broke

Mine broke in that same spot a few months ago and it was because the bolt that held the bracket on was loose.
