Stock ride hight, upgrades.
Ok. I looked. I searched. I thought maybe make a general thread.
I am looking to upgrade my suspension. Springs, shocks, struts. Simple.
I am looking for cornering ability at speed at stock ride height. either that or stiffen her up a bit, again at stock height. Can I get some recommendations? (stock height is necessary. roads I live around are 100% sh*t.)
Oh I have a 86 Iroc w/ a 355 carb swap, a 700r4 and a 10bolt. Plan on runnin bigger tires in the rear after suspension is done. On my stock rims of course (who doesnt love Iroc rims?)

First, have you done subframe connectors? If not, that's first. Otherwise, you're begging to hurt your car.
For handling on rough roads, that calls for relatively soft springs, with the maximum in anti-roll bars. Aftermarket, not GM.
For your wheels, there really aren't any good options beyond the stock 245/50R16 size.

Okay, forget I have rough roads. I said where I live not where I run. haha. And I have to attempt to keep prices down. SFC's are in route. so....

About the stiffest springs that aren't lowering springs: Moog 5664. Those are fronts. For the rear, Moog CC635 or 5665, your choice.
These have been discussed to death, many times over, including again these last few days.

Coilovers will limit wheel sizes on the front of hte car... I think they're best left for drag cars personally.

BloodBassist,
This will probably be you best bet for springs.

Re: Stock ride hight, upgrades.
No point in running stiffer springs than 5662 or 5664 if you have crummy roads.
Sounds like you need to follow my car's suspension.
5662 and 5665 springs (front and rear)
Koni yellow struts/shocks (adjustable)
TDS Wonderbar
That's it.
The springs are stiffer than stock and cheaper than lowering springs. They're stock ride height.
The wonderbar is cheap and easy to install.
The Konis are expensive. Do what I did. Buy the rears first and save up for the fronts later. They're worth every penny. I've been running them in the full soft position for months. Daily driver on concrete roads filled with potholes and cracks. This week I turned the fronts up 1 full turn (aprox 45%......0% being full soft and 100% being full firm) and the difference was as big as replacing the 20 year old original suspension with the Konis in the full soft position was. The car does not lean like this. And it doesn't even seem any rougher riding with the 1 full turn, as it still compresses the same. But the increased rebound keeps you off the bump stops. The car is a real hoot to drive like this.
Subframe connectors are next.
It seems that most Koni yellow people combine them with lowering springs (since they can handle the lower height, while other struts/shocks can't). But to me, the Koni/stock height springs give the best of both worlds. High performance handling with all the benefits of stock ride height. Smoother than lowering springs. No worries when you see something on the highway and don't have enough time to drive around. Steep driveways etc.

Re: Stock ride hight, upgrades.
Hey Blood. Hopefully your SFC's are from UMI? We are in the process of building a K-member and coilover kit for our in-house '89 IROC. Let me know what else you need an we can get you corner carving.
