c4 corvette dana44 IRS?
I was looking for a better rear end for my '92 camaro and i really wanted independent rear suspension so i started looking and found pictures of a 3rd gen firebird with a 76 vette dana44 HD swap and there was no write up and you couldn't see much of the mounting for it,was wondering if anyone knew a way to do this swap with as little fab. as possible? thanks in advance

Thanks for trying dude but you did the exact opposite of what I asked for.. I've seen the guy that cut the **** out of his car.. I found pictures of an 87 z that looked like it was just bolted into the panhard bar mounts.. Lookin for something like that..

I know the exact car your referring to & no write up exists nor on a the 4th gen, which would be the same.
So you searched & discovered what is out there. What you want (a writeup), does not exist.

Re: c4 corvette dana44 IRS?
C4 swap and little fab work don't really go together. And your not going to get it to fit without removing the panhard bar mount at the very least. If you search a little harder you'll find a couple of guys did this, including the one your talking about who cut his car up, 1MeanZ is his name. Try looking for flydoc, i think thats his name. He did the swap using a kit but he still had to do some cutting on the back end to make everything work. Just the nature of the beast.
You didn't say what your level of fab experience is. I assume not very high if your wanting to do this with little fab work. I not trying to knock you at all, just want you to understand this isn't a direct replacement, even with a kit. If you really want to do this you need to search some more and look at all the options and different ways that other guys did this. And you need to realize what ever way you choose to do this it will be fairly involved. Good luck with your endeavor.

Well I was kind of hoping that someone would comment with something other then the obvious... Like maybe some one who happens to have done a swap like this and just hasn't done a write up, u'm sure someone out there has figured out how to do this swap without rediculous fabbing and destroying of the car

Thanks Chris I know it is going to take some fab which I'm not worried about I just don't want to destroy the back of my car like 1meanz did, do you know where I might find the kit that flydoc used?

I'd think twice about bashing 1meanZ's job as "destroying" the car or "rediculous" (what's that mean? you mean "ridiculous", as in deserving of ridicule? I dont see that as a very accurate adjective so you must have meant something else...), you know absolutely nothing about the guy, his credentials, ability, and his reasons for doing that job the way he did. He put a lot of work and thought into a proper install, and he has a full roll cage in the car that ties into his rear suspension to reinforce it. The car is plenty strong and he didn't cut out any more than necessary. It was a lot of hard work and planning and he did something that as far as I know less than 3 or 4 people have ever done. Give him some props for having the courage and ability to do it, because if he hadn't done it, you wouldn't even have a reference to compare to. He's been playing this game a while - don't bash what you dont understand.

Re: c4 corvette dana44 IRS?
There is/was no kit with Flydoc's install either. It isnt out there, you have to do all the fab on your own. Flydoc took cues from 1MeanZ and I am in the process of doing this too, taking note from each of them, but mine is just as much work as either of them.
IMO study 1MeanZ's thread and then get to cutting on your car, there is no other way to approach something like this. I am only about 1/3 of the way through because I am afraid of cutting the actual frame rails on my car, but I am already past the point on no return.
