A Arm Question

Hey guys.

I squeezed the A arm perch together where the bushing goes in trying to get the frickin' bushing out.

Anyone else done this?

Can it be fixed properly?

Re: A Arm Question

it happens, fixable, IDK. It usually a good idea to weld a little plate between the two pieces to hole things together so this doesnt happen.

Did you get the bushing out? so long as you can get the new one back in and it fits in the car, it will be find.

Re: A Arm Question

I'll post pics when I'm off work late tonight. It's just squeezed closer together where the bushing sleeve is....you can see about half an inch of the bushing sleeve on each side now.

Still didn't get the dang bushing out either. I'm gonna burn the dang things out

Re: A Arm Question

That's what I envisioned. As mentioned above, we usually weld a little reinforcement in stock arms to keep that from happening. I've also just wedged a piece of flat stock in there.

Agree, if you can get the bushing in, you'll probably be fine.

Re: A Arm Question

First:

Throw the wasted one away; no point in risking your life on something that cheeeeeeeeeeep.

Second:

Go to the junkyard and get another one. They're UNBELIEVABLY commonplace; they must fit a bunch of different vehicles, maybe S trucks or G bodies or something, because they always seem to have millions of them already on the shelf waiting for you, and they are STOOOOOOOOOOOPID CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. Not worth salvaging a destroyed one.

Third:

Yes you can burn the rubber out; then take a hacksaw and cut a slot in the shell, then take a hammer and chisel and collapse it, then allow gravity to cause ti to fall out.

Re: A Arm Question

Sweet thanks. I am hoping the bushings catch fire and burn pretty easy cuz I only have a small propane torch

Should you decide to replace, take note of the following:

Re: A Arm Question

Thanks James C

I am seriously considering going with a pair of UMI tubular A Arms now. That'd be easier but more costly for sure.

Not sure if it's worth the cost though.

To help a little, they are 15% off until 12-28

Merry Christmas!
