WEIRD SOUND WHEN TURNING??PLZ HELP...

So I got a 1984 z28 (manual transmission) and every time when I am in a parking lot or just driving slow trying to park my tires make a screech noise when I tun my steering wheel all the way to the left or to the right.

Fr example Im in the parknig lot making a sharp tunr to make the parking spot and my tires make this screeching sound as I am turning. I honestly dont know what it can be. My car has also been lowered from the front and IDK if that might be what is causing the noise or the unbalanced tires.....please help...thanks!

is it a mechanical whine? I think your hearing your power steering pump? The sound I am referring to is when you turn your wheel all the way to the left and or right....this will make your power steering sound VERY BAD...like nails on a chalk board bad...I think that it is normal, but I may be wrong all together.

well it was making a noise similar to that bu that was becuase it had no poweer steering fluid but now that I added fluid it stopped making that noise but it is still making this other noise, it coming more from the tires themselves though.....its pretty much the sound you hear when you do a burnout, that screeching sound from tires...

Look in your wheel well area for signs of tires rubbing on something and don't turn your wheels all the way to the stops. No need for it, train yourself not to do that.

Puts stress on the steering box--you should throw on a Wonderbar, BTW.

The following is from How to Tune and Modify your 1982-1998 Camaro by Jason Scott:

"The problem stems from high forces transmitted from the steering box to the chassis, especially under low-speed cornering, such as when maneuvering around a shopping mall parking lot. Fat performance tires present a great deal of resistance at low speeds, which imparts considerable stress into the steering system, and ultimately attempts to rip the steering box from its mounting surface--especially during "full-lock" turns, where steering torque is greatest. Over time, these forces weaken the chassis surface around the steering box and can result in torn metal.

"Whether the chassis is weakened or torn at the steering box, the result is the same--steering actions are delayed while the chassis flexes, leading to unresponsive and erratic steering. Ironically, though the damage stems from low-speed steering, the resulting problem is far more serious at high speeds than low ones.

"It is possible to repair the damaged area, though the best solution is to avoid the problem in the first place by installing a brace [Wonderbar] that reinforces the steering box mounting area."

Sounds to me like your tires are rubbing the wheel wells. What size tires are you running?
