IROC Springs???

Found some goodies for my 83 Z28 today at the wrecking yard. There is an 86 IROC and I pulled the front swaybar and the wonderbar/brace thingy too...and a few other things. I was wondering if the IROC springs would be any better than what's already on my 83? Or would I be better off buying new because of how old the springs are? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: IROC Springs???

Great find on the wonder bar and the front sway bar. The springs, however...well, they're old, and probably sagging. I think a nice new set of your choice would be preferable depending on what you want to do with the car.

Re: IROC Springs???

Thanks!!! I actually looked at the car three times before I realized I sould check out the sway bar and see if it had a wonderbar. What brought me back thge last time was the fog lights and I was wanting to see if it had a power driver side seat (wanted the seat tracks)...it had the power seat but I never did pull the tracks. One of my goals is excellent handling so new springs are on the shopping list.

Re: IROC Springs???

OE sway bars are matched, probably a 34 mm front and a 24 mm rear on an 86 IROC. If the rear bar is still there, you might consider picking it up.

Re: IROC Springs???

Someone had already taken the rear end and I didn't see it on the ground. I figured it went with the rear end, but I didn't look inside the back of the car.

Re: IROC Springs???

Yeah the rear bar would have been a good score.

Next time maybe? Just keep your eyes on the yard and be the first vulture to pick at the carcass.

FWIW, I scored a 1LE set of sway bars on ebay for less than $80. New poly bushings, new springs, new KYB shocks, and a new quick ratio steering box sure make for a fun handling street car. If you can't find the matched 24mm rear, check Ebay...there's usually a few on there.

I need to call the PO of my car. He swapped out the rear with one from an 88 IROC and I think he might have used the rear sway bar off the 88.
