Tie Rod replacement bolt/sleve

Had to cut out the rear end upper tie rod bolt. The 3 bolts on the chasis came out good, but I need the replacement bolt and sleve for the other side and I cannot seem to find one. Someone post a link on where to get this please?

Thanks

Are you talking about the track bar brace (aka the panhard brace)?

Re: Tie Rod replacement bolt/sleve

UMI sells a replacement bar but I'm not sure it might actually relocate it as well. Maybe ask UMI to sell you only the bolts ?

Re: Tie Rod replacement bolt/sleve

OK I got some pics here, this is the upper tie rod. Notice the top part of the bar there where I cut the sleeve out along with the rest of the bolt.... did I ruin this bar? because it looks like the sleeve is actually part of the bar itself

This is the bolt /sleeve that I cut out

Name: Reartierodbolt.jpg

Size: 54.6 KB

This is the center piece... note all the rust between the bolt and the sleeve.

So now that I have inspected the end of the rod better it looks like that sleeve is part of the bar, and if so I think I have ruined the bar because I cut the enire center out???

Re: Tie Rod replacement bolt/sleve

This is called an panhard bar support bracket. UMI sells one:

http://www.umiperformance.com/catalo...roducts_id=289

Although, this relocates it so don't buy it unless you want to relocate and understand some of the negative effects of doing this depending on your car. But the part in the picture is essentially what you're looking for except it relocates the PHB.

Ok, so what kind of trouble/negative effects am I getting into by relocating the panhard bar? I like the idea of giving extra room in case I want to run 3inch exhaust

Re: Tie Rod replacement bolt/sleve

It's complicated LOL. There are other threads that deal with this but it's mostly for exhaust but a 3" exhaust will fit without relocating that bar so it's not necessary for 3". It would affect handling and there might be some contact with the lower bar depending on how low you go with the car. My recommendation to you would be to find a good used upper panhard bar support piece (not bent and preferably not rusted) and re-install with new hardware and you're good to go.

Im not planing on lowering the car at all, I am planing on putting in some other UMI products like the panhard itself and the control arms, The bracket would look good in there...??? also Im not going to be racing this car or flying around hard corners. After all the money Ive been sinking into this thing the most I will ever do is a hole shot every once in awile. Besides there is'nt a curvy road anywhere in this God forsaken state rofl.

With all this said If I do decide to get the UMI brace do you think I will be ok?

Re: Tie Rod replacement bolt/sleve

just get one off another F body in the junkyard... or get a piece of tubing the same size as the sleeve you cut out and weld it in place.

This car sat in a garage for 12 years and I had to cut the bolts.... I would hate to see what one in a junkyard looks like.

Re: Tie Rod replacement bolt/sleve

Maybe post an ad in the parts wanted section. I'm sure somebody is selling this piece? I just cleaned mine up and painted it with POR15 and it looks brand new. It's just a support piece and it doesn't do much other than support the PHB.

Re: Tie Rod replacement bolt/sleve

the umi part will work with your old part as well.
and it's for running 2.. 3" pipes over the rear end..if you want.

from there site:
"Relocation kit will work with the factory panhard bar and all aftermarket panhard bars."

my parts yard has 2 camaros in the yard at this time, the parts your looking for are only $8

Re: Tie Rod replacement bolt/sleve

If you know how to weld or know someone who ca you could make one in an hour or two dirt cheap. Plenty of threads and progress [ics of members doing suspension and cage pieces.

The guy I got my posi rear had one in real good shape. But it does look like new now with a fresh coat of chasis paint. I had to order the bolt from sphon. Actually I need to get two more for my new BMR panhard bar as well.
