front end going wider??

ok, so its going out of control lol....

the car is going to paint in a few months, im going to widen the front fenders to match the width of the rears, and make custom louvered vents into the tops of the fenders to release air pressure. im already using a 2 inch spacer up front with vett wheels, i would rather us no spacer at all, or at most a 1 in.. but do to the wider fenders, the track width up front needs to go wider as well, im already doing custom built coilovers and brembo 6 piston brakes 14 inch rotors blah blah blah.... anyway, due to my coilovers i need to make custom camber plates anyway for my setup, im thinking i should make a fully adjustable lower control arm set that is actualy 2inches wider then stock, and obviously make the tie rods longer as well, and make the camber plate to correct the strut angle? any ideas????

anyone with in put will be greatly appreciated

Re: front end going wider??

Think about it. If you move the arm and the spindle 2" out you will still need the same spacer to fit the wheel as you have not added any extra clearance from the strut to the wheel. When turning you will hit the front and rear of the wheel opening badly, so unless you flare them too it wont work either.

What exactly are you trying to do? If you are trying to fit wide front wheels to match the rear it can be done with far less work

Re: front end going wider??

The question is - why would you go through all that effort when all you have to do is get the right width wheels with the right BS and they will fit right into your wider fenders.

Also - why the Vette wheels?

Re: front end going wider??

the vet wheels just happen to be what im currently on, i was using it as an example, the rear fenders are 73 inches wide frome driver to passenger side, and the fronts are 71 driver to passenger.. i wanted to make the front 73 as well, so i would pull the fenders and widen then one inch on each side, im already using a 2inch spacer and with the added fender width would need a 3inch spacer witch would be retarded... and i dont want to use a wheel with a deep lip or deep concave in the front. in the back im going to use 11x19 concave wheels, and up front 19x9.5 but i dont want to have to use more then a one inch spacer with a new wheel...i also have a isue with scrub radius , that i was hoping to correct... as far as the space for the strut ? i noticed that today when had it on the lift today, there is no way i could go with a wider arm, and not have a problem with the coilovers... so it kind of seam that im stuck where i am and its all just a matter of wheels. hre would make me a wheel to give me the exact specs i need but its not cheap lol thanks guys

Re: front end going wider??

right now its my dd..... i want it to be able to keep up with the cts-v zl1 maybe even the new z28 .. i want to build a third gen to handle its best, but with all the creature comforts updated, its just a more modern version of a third gen with some high end flare, for exampl, grigio titanio mazerati met grey paint, black and grey alcantara interior.....and i like being different, doing something i haven't seen yet in these cars

its hard for me to pin point exactly where i want this car to end up, my ideas are always growing...

Re: front end going wider??

i will get some pics up, it doesnt look like anything super special as of yet, im still doing some body work and prep befor i take it to paint, and im waiting on the alcantara fabric to show up so i can start reworking my dash and door pannels, and i still need to order the alcantara headliner and make the ttop cards/headliner insert panels., i already have the new bride zeta seats sitting in boxes at work. and i cant seam to find the stuppid 2013 camaro bowtie emblem for the steering wheel. there is alot to be done, im goin to go work on the front coilover set this weekend, hopfully i can get most of that done. the rear coilovers are finished sitting on the floor of my room lol i just dont think i should put them in until the cage goes in because the resivors need to mount somewhere.

Re: front end going wider??

Basically you want to build a pro-touring thirdgen. Noble goal, go check out lateral-g.net and pro-touring.com. I hope you're ready to dump $30k into the car.

Re: front end going wider??

im alreagy on them, yea at the end 20 to 30k sounds right, i fab and build just about everything my self and its a slow going project, it took us a year just to design the front coilovers but there almost done, just need to finish the uniball camberplates and the adjustable lower mount that bolts to the spindel then order up the front coils and i can put it all in. im still waiting for a ls1 ls3 or ls6 to get tossed my way from my friends special effex shop. free is always good lol i think the plan is to do a super shallow oil pan and do a sump system so i can drop the engine as low into the chassis as possible. unfortunatly i can throw wads of cash at it at a faster pace, but oh well, in time lol

So far the front and rear suspension is it, 4th. Gen rear is in with 1.25 spacers as well in the rear.. (Spacers will be removed once I have new wheels made)

The front and rear track width is roughly 6 inches wider than stock , the wide body fenders are 2 inches wider each side front and rear . Sitting on 295 30 18 r888 front and rear , carbon fiber splitter and front chip bottom, aluminum blown diffuser, carbon fiber wicker bill spoiler, hood Louvers , caged with custom door bars/subframe connectors currently being built right now.

Re: front end going wider??

I ended up making a set of front a arms that at 2.5 wider than stock each side with 5/8 heims . Coilovers are fully adjustable and you can also adjust the spring preload and ride height sepratley. The upper camber plates are 7/8 unibal that the strut mounts through .
