Sway bar/wonder bar question

Where does the sway bar/wonder bar mount to in the frt.? I'm guessing the Rt side mounts to the idler arm bracket. Is there a bracket on the L side that they mount to? my car is a drag car and everything has been removed. thinking of stiffening up the frt. with a wonderbar. What diameter tubing (OD) are the aftermarket wonderbars?

Re: Sway bar/wonder bar question

The say bar is about a foot from the idler arm bracket, and at a 90° angle to it. Not related at all.

There are numerous aftermarket "wonderbars", with various tubing diameters. (and thicknesses)

My personal preference would be for the lightest one I could get that did the job. Which is not a whole helluvalot really, a piece of EMT would be entirely adequate to handle the forces involved there. No sense hanging 100 lbs of lead on the nose for no reason if you don't have to. Most of the "aftermarket" ones IMO are overdone; designed to sell to people who expect to see BEEF, not to people who ... understand what's going on.

???????
From pics the sway bar mounts right at the idler arm and the steering box area. That should be where the wonder bar mounts to.

What pics are you looking at and how are we suppose to compare what you're looking at to what we can't see?

It looks like a bracket is there that attaches to the frame. Here is a pic from a UMI build and if you zoom in you should be able to see the bracket and a bolt or two that attach it to the frame.

If you were to put one side up to the passenger side mount then the other end will place the drivers side mounting position. If you don't have the bracket then you're best bet is a local junk yard.

Re: Sway bar/wonder bar question

D00d, I don't need pics; I have A CAR, with all those parts ON IT.

The sway bar mounts about a foot in front of the idler arm, all the way out at the end of the "frame", under the radiator, right behind the bumper bar mounts, on the UNDERSIDE of the "frame", while the idler arm mounts to the SIDE of the "frame" about even with the engine belts. The "wonder bar" goes between the sway bar bushing brackets and the "frame", all of which is right out at the nose of the car.

So do I. lol Images can save a lot of time and effort.
There's the possibility the part was removed. So in that case he might not know what is missing or what it looks like.

Re: Sway bar/wonder bar question

I'm really surprised at how confusing this seems to be....

The wonderbar bolts directly into the same splace as the front sway bar bushings. Even if your car doesn't have a front sway bar anymore (if it is a drag car) then the holes will still be there.

4-bolts. easy.

DOOOOD. Go out and look at your own car!!!

The wonderbar and sway bar both mount in the same place: to the idler arm bracket. This bracket can be removed from the body of the car, just like the similar bracket on the driver's side. On many drag cars with no front sway bar and a rack, these brackets are not needed and often removed.

Here's one of the oversize bars , and where it traditionally mounts .

The rt side does bolt to the Idler arm bracket as I guessed.

Actually the L side holes aren't there if this bracket is missing which mine is.

Ah, I see, my mistake. I guess I never noticed that as being a separate piece like it is.

Good find. I wouldn't have thought there would be one on Ebay.
