Shocks and Struts

1982 Z28 Indy Pace car. Want to keep car as original as possible, what shocks and struts came from the factory? Thank you!

Re: Shocks and Struts

Some OEM GM stuff that has been discontinued for 30 years?

An easier way to approach the question is to see what's available. You can get cheap parts store garbage, like anything by Monroe or Gabriel. There's mid level stuff like KYB, or Tokico... Or there are top of the line replacements like Koni or Bilstein, but currently Bilstein doesn't offer front struts for thirdgens. Konis are the most expensive stock replacement option, but they're also likely the best option in most cases.

Re: Shocks and Struts

Thanks Drew, I think the 36 year old shocks and struts need to go. Not looking for cheap, looking for something decent. The most the car will be driven is to and from car shows and a little cruising. Car has 40,000 and is original as far as I know.

RockAuto does still sell an AC Delco reasonably priced.

Re: Shocks and Struts

Pretty sure the Delco parts are just Gabriels in a delco box. FWIW.

Re: Shocks and Struts

I installed new KYB Excel-G struts and shocks (GR2s) and I'm really not impressed. Kinda bouncy and harsh.

It's too bad the front Bilsteins are discontinued. I have Bilsteins on my Mustang and it rides amazing.

I guess I'll have to save up for Konis sighhh

Re: Shocks and Struts

Guess Im the opposite. I have KYB Excel G struts and gas adjust shocks and I like it. For the price, the KYB is hard to beat. I don't drive mine enough to justify the cost of Konis.
