Re: Advantages/Disadvantages strut tower braces 1PC vs take-apart

One is rigid and the other has hinges that allow freedom of movement in one of the most important directions you want to constrain. The fixed bar is fully constrained and makes the chassis assembly more rigid. It's like having a box top with hinges vs. a rigid structure.

The joints are added to allow length adjustment to fit different vehicles (not for easy removal). But I'm pretty sure you would think it's silly to attach subframe connectors with spherical joints. Same applies here, just a different chassis stiffening component.

So where the eyelets are is not constrained as in the fixed version. A torquing force at each shock tower.

The strut towers aren't moving in a direction that would matter to having heim joints. you're just triangulating the STB so the triangulating bars are only working in tension and compression, there is no torsion going on

If you haven't swapped in after market strut mounts, I'd suggest going that route before an STB.

I did replace them with new stock ones. Good? Bad? I replaced most of the suspension (new OEM like) except for the control arm bushings which I will do soon.

The rubber in the OE replacements will deflect, the after market ones, with a stainless steel spherical bearing, won't. Checkout the Founders mount for example:

Wow. Those look really sturdy. I'm not going to race my car though. It's a vert and I want to stiffen up the chassis as much as possible. I already have the Spohn SFCs which did a great job.
