Upgraded Steering Shaft Upper Bearing?

In the process of rehabbing my steering column, I removed the upper bearing assembly, and the bearings went everywhere! I'm still missing two, and have looked everywhere, so I'll need to get a replacement part. These seem to be hard to find. I have found a few used ones on eBay. But, I've also found an "Upgraded Upper Bearing Kit."

This is what it looks like: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-1995-G...EAAOSwWZpZ60Xr

Is this a direct replacement? Is it preferred over the plastic/ball bearing assembly? Seems like it would be easier to assemble.

I've done searches, but cannot find a definitive answer.

Thanks!

I think that is actually the steering column lower bearing.

Hawks sells a very nice metal bearing. It seems expensive but they hardly make any money on it. You get what you pay for.

ball bearings in the bulk hardware section of your local hardware store is what you seek. Match em up.

For anyone looking for the top steering shaft bearing that is the correct one on EBAY. It is the upgraded model..

Re: Upgraded Steering Shaft Upper Bearing?

Did anyone replace theirs? The upper bearing in my column is busted and I can't get the old race out. Seems like it's either pressed in or just stuck. Is there a way to replace it without taking the entire column apart?

I've replaced mine a few times over the years. It can be done without removing the column. You just need to disconnect the steering shaft from the end of it. Make sure you mark how it goes so you don't move the position of your steering wheel.
