A Great Steering Gear Box Rebuilder

Just wanted to give those of you who are needing your steering gear box rebuild to check into powersteering.com for getting it done. I had mine done by them, it is better than new and since my Z-28 came with a quick ratio box I didn't need to have that done. Cost me 330.00 but it comes with a lifetime guarantee it is a brand new unit when shipped back. Check out their website and reviews, it was a quick turnaround, less than 2 weeks and the difference is just amazing. I bought a box store reman unit that was absolutely horrible right out of the box, the only thing I could say for it was that it didn't leak, everything else was just bad. I didn't expect just how good my steering feels now, I also use the DSE steering shaft and will add a new Tuff Stuff pump when I put the car up for the winter to complete the all new steering system. Car is now fun to drive again, corner carving is predictable and stable, should of done this years ago.

I concur with this endorsement as well. Marty was great, patient, answered all my questions, and got my box back to me faster than if I'd ordered a new one. Great business to work with.

How does one know if he has a quick turn steering box? My IROC steering is 2 full turns from stop to stop, which I would think is a quick turn steering box.

Re: A Great Steering Gear Box Rebuilder

glad to hear about this company. seems like a totally affordable price. my steering box seems "on-point" and I autocross the car and street drive it.. but it is also the 32 year old, 174,000 mile, original stock box. never been worked on. so I'm guess ing it probably could use a refresh. glad you had good experience with the. maybe i'll send mine out this winter when i do my engine bay overhaul and do the engine swap. cool

Do they make you send your pump in too? A place in MO a friend of mine uses does that, makes it all set up correctly.

Yes, you send in your box and get it back. It is not a core and you get a different one. You get your exact same box back, albeit in much better shape.

Re: A Great Steering Gear Box Rebuilder

When you send in your box they will get back to you with an estimate and they will tell you if your box is already fast ratio box, which I believe most of the Z-28's and Trans Am's come with fast ratio boxes. No you don't have to send in your pump unless you need it to be rebuilt as well, mine was fine. If your box is not a fast ratio box, the cost will be just about 100.00 more for them to convert it, my opinion, it is well worth it. My box was sloppy and leaky and was in real need to be rebuilt. I went out today for a good ride and it is truly unbelievable how much of a difference there is now. I plan on buying a new Tuff Stuff chrome pump assembly this winter but it would be fine if I didn't. You will always get you own box back unless the case itself was damaged.

I think you would be amazed on much wear you have that you don't really know you have until you get it done by this company.

awesome! I'm very glad to have learned this. I'll add this to the ever growing list of items to tackle over this winter. I just drove the car into work today and I'm so used to how it currently handles, that I would never know how a tight vs sloppy box would feel. So, much thanks for this ino. My pump is probably fine, but is going to look out of place with all billet/polished//chrome accessories and brackets. black plastic tank etc.

My current pump works fine and I painted silver back in 09 when I put the engine together and I too have a lot of billet and polished parts so this winter I will be buying a Tuff Stuff chrome new pump assembly to install. I know what you mean about the growing list, for me my wife "once asked when is it done" and I told her when they put me in the ground or when I can no longer work on it. My car has been a work in progress since 1988!!
