Best chassis upgrades for high horse car

Hey fellows new to the board here so thought I would ask instead of trying to muddle through old threads, going to dig my wife's high school ride out of the mothballs and was wondering how to best stiffen up the old 84z may put a cage in it at some point but want to do all the other stuff before going that route anyway I'm a horsepower nut so probably going to throw at least 700 hroses to it right out of the gate, tired of seeing all of these stangs running around so thought I'd show them the backside of this old third gen.any way just thought I'd ask what some of the fast guys are doing thanks in advance

Re: Best chassis upgrades for high horse car

I have very good outer subframe connectors by Kenny Brown (not sold anymore). It wasn't enough. Body panels were moving around and the roof was starting to crack. I added Alston inner subframe connectors and a 6-point cage. Seemed to be the cure.

A frame mounted torque arm helps too, by using the front cross bar to tie together the inner and outer subframes.

If you are planning a cage, you can build it to connect your suspension and or u b 'subframe' points. It wouldn't get any better than that.

Best connectors are custom, all of the commercially produced ones have to ignore individual needs like ground clearance, exhaust etc. I don't use them, my cage ub subframes and suspension points are all picked up by the chrome moly cage. hp somewhere north of 600.

Yeah I was really hoping to not have to go that route right out of the gate, I did see where someone wasl making a complete setup front to back but didn't know if anyone has tried it or anyone else's chassis stiffening components without the cage

The biggest advantage of tying a main hoop to sf connectors is that in addition to longitudinal stability, you get torsional stability, particularly important in a 3rd gen.

If you're serious about 700hp in a third gen, you'd be wise to get the car right first, then build a powerplant. If you don't, you'll just stick it in the weeds.

Yeah I know they are horrible if putting any kind of power to them I'll probably have to go the cage route just don't know if mommas going to like that too well, the car has been sitting around for about 20 years now and I love the looks of these things, it's just so easy to make power now days

momma? if momma likes a thrill (most mommas do) then a 700hp ride that she lives through will pay some dividend - if you know what I mean....

Competition engineering makes SFCs similar to the old Kenny Brown units. If you are more of a bolt in guy, perhaps looks into the S&W connectors. If welding if your style, the detroit speed engineering subframe connectors look to be pretty comprehensive but difficultly of install is higher.
