Power Steering Lines

I am replacing my steering gear box and the return hard line bent and cracked while removing the nut. When I go to replace the line, should I replace with an 83 return hose/line or go with a 93? It’s a 93 350 swapped 83 z28.

Re: Power Steering Lines

Return hose is usually just that; hose. As long as your 93 pump has the same size hose barb as your car's steering gear, yerbasic piece of hose will work. Should be available in bulk form; maybe a little pack with 3' or something, also sold as transmission fluid cooler hose. Don't try to use any kind of fuel line.

Re: Power Steering Lines

You also might want to consider using fuel injection style hose clamps. They don't bite into the hose like regular hose clamps do.

Re: Power Steering Lines

Excellent. The one I found at my local parts store is like $16. So far every job I’ve tackled on this vehicle has been included finding several other problems or inadvertently creating other problems. It’s been a fun learning experience. Thanks for the help!
The most current issue is the gearbox is stuck to the pitman arm and of course the puller I “rented” is to small.

Re: Power Steering Lines

Return line is low pressure. The factory lamps are just spring loaded.

Other than a leak and a mess, a small drip is no worries as long as the reservoir doesn't go too low.

High Pressure line? Now THAT is where you have to be SUPER careful. That line runs like 1500psi to 2000psi I think. A pinhole leak from there is the same thing as sticking your hand in a band saw. No joke with that stuff.
