Re: CARCASS ruins another car

Not a fan of hacking up what appeared to be a very clean, original 3rd gen. If that was their initial plan, they could have started with a rough roller instead. Those plastic fender flares covering extreme-offset rims/tires, in particular.................just not my cup of tea.

I saw that too. While I'm not a fan of cutting up a good, solid car to begin with, I'd be ok with it if I felt they did a good job with it. This thing was a disaster. How they have a TV show is beyond me.

Re: CARCASS ruins another car

Yeah, I had seen teasers of that show, but was never interested enough to sit down and watch the whole thing. I think I made it just a few minutes in.

I'm probably going to annoy some folks with this comment, but some of these shows seem very much aimed at the 13-18 y.o. teenage boy market. Especially on YouTube, there's just show after show (if you can call them that) of people doing things that range from questionable builds (l'm guessing this one fall into that category) down to just automotive vandalism.

That's just me. I never saw the fascination with demolition derbies, most of the "stunts" on shows like Top Gear, or even the child-like throwing of parts during disassembly practiced by guys like Stacey David.

IMO, most of that nonsense can be blamed on the times in which we find ourselves. All the various forms of social media are in mortal combat with each other for 'views,' and it seems that the more-sensationalistic the post, the more people will click on it. For myself, there are many other YT channels providing top-notch educational content, while at the same time, being entertaining without the poster coming across as a douche bag.

As far as "Carcass" is concerned, those two kewl doods are over the top in trying to be 'edgy.' Not a lot to be learned from that show except how not to get your hair styled. But maybe that's just me and my view on things, since I'm likely much older than most posters here.

Yeah, the carcass build sucked. If you think that's cringy, you're really going to like the Hoonigan boys disassembling this engineering prototype car with a sawzall:

Meh. I was here during the mid 2000's. Nothing any of these dippy tv shows does compares with the hack jobs that were celebrated right here on the Appearance sub-forum.

Re: CARCASS ruins another car

I'll be honest. Here's my gripes.

Stupid Turbo 400 for an AUTOCROSS car.

The god awful fender flares to fit poorly sized wheels that have no business on that car.

And much after that, I just can't be bothered to watch because I'm just that disgusted.

I don't know.

Why? Are there laws there that prevent it? Might they face incarceration for what they have done?

'Stupid Turbo 400 for an AUTOCROSS car'.....

i cant resist responding, it may not be fer some people, but it's been proven over and over (GM's newest highest HP cars are fastest on a road course with them), auto's were programable a long time ago, GM won 24h endurance races (as well as many shorter ones) with 700's in 3rd gens, I won 3 regional champs in a third gen with a 700 in it. they road race 'VERY WELL', and they (in the case of the 400) just DONT break. i love them. can't say that fer the way this particular car was prepared, but hey, let THEM have whatever THEY want

Naahhhh, that's not what that d****ss law says. He can BE SUED IN CIVIL COURT BY ANYBODY for up to $10,000.

I'm already sick, so I I'm not going to risk making it worse by watching what they did, but if it's like most of these shows, it's geared toward shocking 15-yr-old kids with ideas of what they can do once they get a job at the grocery store, that will **** off their fathers, uncles, etc. with their extremely bad decision-making. I guess we all went through that stage at one point or another in our lives. Just, some of us outgrow it, after the very first time we spend our hard-earned cash that way, and see for ourselves what a mistake it was. Some never make it that far though, and stay stuck at 15 yrs old their whole life.

Re: CARCASS ruins another car

2 of my gripes are drift cars and burnout cars. seems like most of these shows and youtube channels retort to one of those 2 nowadays. just doesnt interest me much at all. Cleetus on youtube picked up a decent looking third gen and turned it into a stupid burnout car, and after wrecking it, said he never really liked how it "handled" and wanted to swap the engine into something better. it does burnouts for crying out loud.
another trend i have found with these cars when they wind up on tv or whatever, is the host starts off with basically making fun of the car. just about every time. one of the newer episodes on motortrend tv features a 1997 z28 30th anniversary camaro. i got excited and watched it. the guy driving it pretty much made fun of ithe car the whole episode and took it to the road course where they kept passing it with newer or modded cars to show how slow and outdated the camaro was. any episodes you see with a third gen will undoubtedly have some mention of ******s or whatnot. There is more than a few youtube channels with some nerdy kid wheeling an 80s car around talking about how terrible everything is and how the transmission isnt as smooth as a toyota. Pretty tired of all that crap.

Very poor build. I could do it cheaper, and better.

Didn't even fix the freaking broken tilt column

Re: CARCASS ruins another car

I had a 73 camaro with flared out quarters to accommodate massive slicks. It looked dumb then too but at least the previous owners bothered to fiberglass them in and paint it. This thing looks like an IKEA job gone wrong. It does make me feel better about the work I am doing on my 82 TA. Maybe I am not a hack after all lol!

That’s what I was thinking, I haven’t seen these up close but it reminded me of Spohn’s coil over kit with the plate underneath.

Yes after first seeing others and Hoonigan doing it. I called Qa1 and asked them about the plates and they told me yes it should go under the tower.. AS I have the Spohn's Plates on my Car and years ago the info I had from them was the same..under the towers. Sandwiching the tower. with the Top camber plates.

Well opinions are something close to a butthole, I’m sure you know the rest. All those things do make a difference on handling and performance. I won’t discount someone’s work for no reason and you shouldn’t either. Forums are supposed to be helpful, keep that in mind Thirdgen.org members. Also no one has activity on this site until someone shares something new and a keyboard commando gives an opinion. So please refrain from anything of this nature, plus let’s see some of your greater accomplishments clubber.

Re: CARCASS ruins another car

Just found this thread, and thought it was something new, but just a continuation from a while ago. Because I had the time, I've actually watched "most" of the video, W/O fast fwding thru it. Was totally disappointed in that they did the entire running gear over, buying all new stuff, and didn't convert it to a stick shift. I know paddle shifters are all the rage now, but thought they would at least dump the auto for a 3rd pedal. Because they say it was built "specifically" for auto-cross, and not a combination street driver.
Plus, I was really interested about the tranny conversion, and how they adapted the torque arm. Of course, that wasn't important to them. Must've put an adapter on the cross-member to connect it.
And lastly, of course, they had-ta use an LS motor. Curious about the weight and size of it, compared to the original SBC.
