Correct ball joint part

Hello replacing my front lower ball joints and I’m trying to figure out the correct replacement part. My ball joint is a press fit ( not splined) and the AC Delco part I purchased 45D2026 is too small. Does anyone know the right replacement part I need. 1984 Camaro 2.8l v6.
Many thanks!

Re: Correct ball joint part

Follow on question, the Moog part K6145 is a splined version of the ball joint. Is this an aftermarket solution? Can the splined version be pressed into a control arm with no splines that had a pressed fit ball joint in it?

Re: Correct ball joint part

press fit ( not splined)
They're ALL "press fit".

The "splines" are there merely to cut into the metal and make a fresh impression. Most replacement ones are like that.

Can't speak to the size of some AC Delco part. Since AC Delco is just some printing on a box, and doesn't make ball joints (or nearly anything else), they only buy them, repackage them, and resell them at TREMENDOUS markup, I don't usually buy parts of that sort wrapped in that brand of box. The Moog # looks familiar (same BJs are used our cars, S trucks, A & G bodies, older F bodies, and I don't even know what all else) butt don't quote me on that.

Re: Correct ball joint part

so the fact the original has no splines, the aftermarket ones do to give them more bite.
Ok thanks

Re: Correct ball joint part

Sounds like you might have an "oversized" bore. If the std ball joint doesnt press fit, then you'll need the oversized version of it. For moog i think its a k6145T balljoint. Oreillys sells it, but amazon is cheaper. Oreillys also sells another brand (Rare Parts) #10791, buts its pricey.

As Sofa mentioned the splines are there for the BJ to make a fresh cut. Sorta like a knurled finish help you grip better. Both version of the moog BJ are splined.

Sometimes the original hole wears out and the std size BJ wont stay pressed in anymore. So an "OS" version is needed so you can press in the BJ. Sometimes people buy/get the OS version by mistake. When this happens the OS BJ will enlarge the original hole and a std size BJ will no longer press in. Oreillys also has a A version of the 45D2026, but ive no idea if that means its OS.Verify before you buy though.

Amazon Amazon
