Replacement Bilstein Shocks

I want to get new rear shocks for my '87 IROC. I want the exact same shocks (yellow Bilsteins) that came on it. They are no longer available from GM. GM now sells DeCarbons as replacement parts.

I understand that we can buy new Bilsteins from other sources. But are they the exact same as the factory shocks? If so, what is the part number?

someone posted a reply not to long ago mentioning that the stock bilsteins are not as good as the aftermarket ones. One thing you should be aware of though when ordering the aftermarket ones is that there are 2 different styles of rear shocks that Bilstein makes for your car. One is the standard length and the other is for if your car is equiped with springs shorter that stock.

The best prices I found on Bilsteins were here

I believe that, I talked to Goodyear on why my tires were going bald at 20,000 when the same tire in the store was good till 50,000 and he told me that's how they keep the cost of new cars down is by putting cheaper parts on them.

Y'all are bursting my bubble, here. I always thought IROCs were special and they didn't scrimp on the performance parts. You'd think that by bringing in Bilstein, they were striving for excellence. Only the IROCs got the Bilsteins, so I assumed they were top quality shocks specially engineered for the IROC. Wrong?

I want a shock that performs at least as well as the originals. I want no increase in ride harshness. I want it engineered for my car, not a "one size fits all" proposition. And I don't want to go through a half dozen different sets to find the right ones. Are the replacement Bilsteins "better" than the originals? Is there a "better" alternative out there?

Mine is a daily driver. It never sees any racing (drag, road course, or otherwise). But I don't want to take a step backward in terms of performance.

I would say yes that replacement bilsteins would be better than the stock ones you have now. Not because they didn't make them as good, I don't even know this for sure this is only something I saw posted, but I feel they would be better because of how long ago those were made. They have probably changed the way they perform, as time goes on advancements are made, and your car is 15 years old. I think that, seeing as how old yours are that KYB's would be an equal replacement and maybe a little better. I replace a set of KYB's I had with Bilsteins, the Bilsteins are a much harsher ride than the KYB's I had. KYB's are an improvement over stock and priced very good.
