can anyoen look under rear of a S10 or G body or b body 82-up and see if ,,...

see if the brake backing plates are attached by just two screws coming from inside of the brake shoe area, youll see the ends of the two screws protruding through the backside through the axle tube flange, on any GM car 82-up with 7.5" 10 bolt axle and 9 1/2" x 2" brakes, or if any GM cars older than that that anyoen may have, may have the same type of brake backing plate design

I have myself in a mess now, i just got done removing brake drums off the 84 and i trashed the pass side drum and backing plate, the damn thing would not come off no matter how far i backed off the shoes, i backed them off and the drum spun free, it just would not slide off the axle flange, i beat on it and beat on it and trashed the drum, broke it and mangled up the cheap backing plate, but it was the only way..... so now im screwed,
whoever designs this stuff in GM just plain sucks

basically im curious about vehicles such as 82-up cutlasses, regals monte carlos, S-10's etc etc

also, if you do have a 82-up GM car or downsize truck and if it has the conventional style of backing plates that are attached to the axle tube flanges by the normal four bolts and nuts then i want to know this also !

what id like to do is upgrade to backing plates for the 7/8" or 15/16" cylinders, except that the damn third gen plates are wierdo style that are attached by only two screws to the axle tube flange, so.,,,, are third gen F body the only ones like this ?

anyone ?

thanks for anything

Dude, I'm "about" to mangle the drum on my rear passenger side, too! (i put a message up about it a few days ago)! Glad to hear I'm not the only one that backed the shoes off and tried everything, to have the drum still stuck.

The backing plates on my 86 GP 2+2 look just like the ones on my Camaro and along with the two bolts that big nut at the top that the springs attach to also hold it on

lol Tom, yeap, that pass side drum was not coming off without breaking out the bitg hammer and prybars, there was no frickin way at all.. didnt really hurt the driver side plate badly, just a couple bents spots on the outside diameter is all, so i have one good laum drum and one good plate, but im gonna swap good plates on both sides and i dunno what im gonna do about drums yet, i guess rob some off an S-10 or G boy or B body or something, and wheel cylinders i dont know yet, i need to find out if any of the S-10s used the same means of wheel cylinder attachment as our maros and if so then im gonna get a pair of manual brake S10 cylinders sine they are 7/8" bore

Thats a Grand Prix 2+2 or what some people call it an aerocoupe, and yes the manual s10 wheel cylinders will work on the g bodys so i dont see why it wouldnt work on the camaro after all they are both corporate 7.5s

well because they mount totally different, the maro uses some wird clip to mount on along with the two screws and i look ed up for and looked at a 84 caprice cylinder and its a totally different cylinder, its a normal conventional two screw cylinder, so...
and they ised 7.5" rearends mainly, so..
