larger than 3/4" bore wheel brake cylinders for G or F body in 82-up ?
does anyone know of any applicaiton of F or G body cars that use anytihng larger than the 3/4" bore wheel cylinders ?
I just looked under my brothers 92 S10 and the backing plates on them are attached the conventional 4 bolt flange way... so those wont work.... manual brake S10's used 7/8" wheel cylinders is what i was getting at, was hoping to swpa some on the maro and upgrade to larger cylinders, but that isnt gonna work now.. i need ot find a pair of backing paltes anyways, so was hoping to upgrade also at the same time...
anyone ?
thanks

Try a mid 80's S10 w/ manual brakes. They still use the 3 bolt backing plate / you should be able to use those 7/8" cylinders.
12" brakes Caprices have 15/16" but I think they don't fit for some reason.

well i looked under a 92 S-1 and they stil use the older 4 bolt style of plates, so S-10 are no good, and all the B body cars use the four bolt too, the parisienne, caprice, delta 88 etc etc
so far only G and F body use our plates, and well all them are 3/4" bore cylinders
i think i am screwed, apparently there are no means to upgrade this stuff on F and G body without welding on 4 bolt style axle tube flanges., if the tubes are same diameter even.,,.
thanks

I could gather a list of about 20 g-body people running 7/8" wheel cylinders on their g-body differentials (which are all 3 bolt drum style, stock) if you like.
Or you could just take my word for it.
And no, I'm not trying to be a *****. But I try not to post misiniformation and your discounting my post because of a 92, when I said mid 80's is a little silly.

seems silly that GM would have changed from F/G body style brake plates in the 80s back to the 4 bolt style in the 90s on the S10's, I have yet to see any year S10 with anytihng except for the 4 bolt plates just like on all the B body cars.,,.,. i can mount S-10 7/8" cylinder son my maro plates, they are nothing alike,..,,.
Id like to talk to some of those peopl on that G body list who are using 7/8" cylinders on their 7.5" G body cars, this should be good stuff..
3/4" bore is all they call for at the stores for all G and F body, so.,,
Ive done been there and phuysically compared them to S-10 and caprice etc, and the maro ones, the maro manual brake ones are the larger oens but are the old style two bolt style with no clips like maro ones, same with the B body ones, so..
talking about 7.5" axles- like under F body- motohead
thanks guys,..

Listen I have put them on a stock 7.5 G-body rear end also. The 8.5 T-type rear in My SS is the same. There interchangable. In fact i still have my 7.5 in the back yard. 7/8 cyl fit just fine in it also.

You still don't believe me LOL... this gets better with every post.
Jay's 8.5" has the exact same brake components as a 7.5" g-body rear, which has the exact same brake components as an 82-92 drum rear. Can't really see on this one, but here's an 86 GN 8.5" which has the same brakes as an 82-92 3rd gen:

What manual brake camaro ones are you looking at? 2nd gen diffs were 4 bolt flange too. Don't know about 3rd gens getting manual brakes.
The reason they went to 4 bolt on the 92 you saw was probably so they could run discs on Bravada etc. w/ out making 2 diff. housings (like 3rd gens have) or interchange brakes parts w/ something else.

I'm also using Raybestos 7/8ths wheel cylinders in my '85 Monte SS. Here's the part number, and its a bolt-in: WC-37644.
My car has the stock 7 5/8" rear with aluminum brake drums pirated from a junked mid-'80s Firebird. More donor parts!

Geez Matthew, that's not right. Bob and I scoured the yard several times before we found a decent pair! :hail: You live in the Holy Land of donor parts.

so you guys say that 80s T type regals with the 8.5" axle use same wheel cylinder attachment method as the 7.5" axles under the G and F bodies ? Il check it out at the store and see,,,
manual brakes I mean on S10 not F body
thanks!

You take a lot of convincing there, Fast
Some of those drums are from Illinois, some are from NM, some aren't from either
If you need some nice 3rd gen doors, I have access to some here w/ out rust. Might wanna come pick up a truck of 'em
