Does anyone run an aftermarket torque converter here?

I'm curious...I notice a lot of guys running the same old mods to the same old times and such...

I wish I had done it when I had my '92...if I ever get another automatic third-gen...scratch that, if I ever buy another AUTOMATIC the first modification I will buy is a nice torque converter.

I think a converter and gears you'd notice the most imrpovement, and it's not TOO expensive, as compared to headers and exhaust.

Come on...everyone...go buy 3000 stall TC's.

with a high stall you can also run a larger cam right. I may pick up one of the cheaper B&M holeshots. im assuming you just need to drop the tranny remove one and install the other. Im not a mechanic but so far ive done everything thats been done to my car and im to cheap to take it somewhere to get it installed.

im running an SLP aprox 2400 stall.. i love it it really gaves an lo3 some life. and i highly recommend it. as far as the cam it doesnt affect a cam selection alot, it really depends on you powerband.

i i am actually installing my third one this week
i started with a 2000 stall, it was an improvement from stock, but not aggressive enough for my tastes. i got about a tenth and a half out of it when it was installed along with a trans go shift kit.
then when i nuked my tranny last year i stepped up to a 2600 stall. it was really nice, unfortunately i only got two passes under power with it so i never got to see what it was really worth, first pass i spun the tires, second pass the rear blew up.
now tha ti have the LT1 cam installed along with al the other bits and pieces i stepped up to the 3600 to attempt to come out on or very near peak torque.
picking a convertor is still somewhat of a black art. some guys say you want it to stall to 500rpm below peak torque, some guys say try to mnake it hit on or just above peak torque, and some stocker and dragster guysh just run huge stalls that never lock up.
personally i am a firm believer in the hit peak torque. it jsut seems logical to me that if you can leave at teh rpm that the engien is making the most power you wil be quicker, as long as you can hook.

later
tim

the launches are awesome with that stall speed.

Im probably gonna get a stall (after i decide what cams going in the 350), posi, SFC and a few other suspension mods before i get the motor...no point of sticking a powerful motor in a car that cant use it.

help me out here. I understand about how with a higher stall speed, you can use a hotter cam and what not, but what if ya cant hook up at that high of rpm's? Do TC's help in anyother ways other than allowing you to start in your powerband??? Thanks
