Can someone please convince my dad that the lt1 cam will fit in my l03 engine

Topic says it all, he asked a few mechanics that said it wont work without TONS of other work, and now he doesn't want to let me do it. But i have heard you guys do it without too much work or problems, please reply!

what work? it is a roller cam going in place of a roller cam. there is work involved in a cam swap. but the only thing you have to do anything to is the dowel on the LT1 cam. you can eitehr whack it in further or grind it down. you reuse your stock lifters and everything. it would be a good idea to swap on a little better set of valve springs, but that is easy.
tons of guys have doen it, including me. no problem.

Would it be possible to use the LT-1 Springs that were in the engine with the cam? I wouldn't think so. I am sure that they would be new enough to support the cam. At least for a while. The cam I bought, the guy said he would throw the springs in with the cam. So i got the cam and springs for free. I guess I can still buy new springs if I don't like the way these are when I get them. But will they work with all the stock stuff?

rule of thumb: mechanics know how to diagnos problems on fuel injection cars, pull trannies, turn rotors - ect - very few I've known know about performance unless they're at a pro shop. Just my .02$

TP355Z is right, most Joe Blow mechanics who work in a dealership or at your local fix up place don't know squat. I know I worked as one for a while and it is amazing how little a supposed pro actually knows. If it isn't trained into him or in some handbook, somewhere its wrong in there thinking. Just swap it an run some stiffer springs and you will be fine.

Yup I hear you, most dads and mechanics are still stuck in the "Carbed Age". Most of the dealer mechanics around here are dumb and all they know how to do is replace sensors until the light goes out.

What if he didn't want to use new springs, would the stockers hold up with the LT1 cam?

I'm sure the stockers would work if they didn't have a ton of mines on them. I have 144k on my engine now. So I am definately going to trash the stock springs the first chance I get. I don't think you really want to chance re-using old springs though. Better to spend the money now than have a spring go out on you and shatter a valve, or whatever happens when a sping goes out. But I just look for the worst case that could occur from something I do. I always want to be on the safe side.

It fits. There, that wasn't to hard. grind down or push in the pin, slode cam in, install lifters, blah blah blah...be happy.
If you need more proof, ask the guys that are actually running with the cam!

By the way, how much of a horsepower gain are y'all recieving with the cam swap? I am thinking about doing it, but want a decent ammount of horsepower gain.

The cam is a nice improvement over the stock. I put my cam on and then a few months later I went with SLP posi and gears. There is a very noticeble power increase in the mid and topend range.

Here is a chronicle of the cam swap that I did with my car.

I put an LT1 cam in my L03 and left everything else completely stock. I have 3000 or so miles on the car since the swap and have had absolutuly 0 problems.
