My friend said I can have his performance chip made for a 89 RS Lo3. My car is a 91 RS Lo3...will it work alright? The only difference i know between our years is my gauges are electronic while his isnt.

I have done that before and it worked fine.

Now that I burn my own chips though.....I know why they call them Hypercrap! Ripoff!

But for free you're good to go.

I got the chip in and it runs way better. I turned down the timing since the chip changed the timing curve and upped it. ANd now my car runs smooth and got alot louder O_o

DM91RS how much of a difference can making your own chip make to the performance of your cars. I have been reading the DIY prom board it all looks very interesting but I don't have the money to start yet.

It will depend on how much you modify your engine. I added a different breather, headers, no cat, 3" exh., ultimate tbi mod's, nd LT4 stock cam and it ran on the stock chip pretty well. The only mod's that I did at that time to the chip was no speed limiter and upped the pump shot a little. But you could do all the above with some fuel pressure and timing adjustments.

I changed to the Vortec heads and intake and it needed more tuning.

It just depends how fine a tune you want to get and how far from stock you mod it.

Cool

Anything that helps is worth doing. Glad that it worked well.

I guess my question is on a mostly stock motor will you be able to make much of an improvement with a custom chip? I know that you can do little things like remove the speed limiter and have heard about but don't understand the lean crusing mode. Why is it more improtant with a highly modified engine? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to know a little more

Thanks Bill
