Buick 350 TBI
Buick 350 TBI
I found a 350 TBI in a Buick Roadmaster. I bought the long block for $300. Here is what I want to do:
Go through the engine have it honed, line bored, ballanced, valve job, etc.
Install the Holley 670 with the Holley Intake Manifold.
I have the knock sensor and all other sensors that are on it, but not the computer. As far as the computer goes, I was going to use the one from my LO3, and just have a new chip burned for it from FastChip.
I have an LT1 Cam I want to put in, and was thinking about 1.6 roller rockers.
Exhaust I was going with the Summit Shorties and Flowtech Y-Pipe.
Does anyone see a problem with this?
Thanks for any feedback.

I'm thinking it could use a bigger cam than the LT1. If you have the $$$$, you might want to think about that. If you search the prom board, you could probably do a search and find out what kinda cam you could use without having the computer throw fits.

Running that mild of cam should run great. I ran the same combo in my 92 GMC truck and was very pleased with the LT1 cam. Those heads won't take too much lift. You would have to have machine work done on the heads to even run 1.6rr on it. I know I bent some pushrods, broke some rocker arm studs and messed up some valve seals do to coil bind from running cam with 1.6 rockers on it. As far as the chip I would just get a COP car chip for that combo and run in your computer. MUCH cheaper than fast chip and with a mildly built 350 it should work fine. Search ebay they are out there for less than $50.

Should work. You just won't get that annoying shift light. Only real difference is the automatic locks the torque converter which is just ignored in the 5 spd.
THANKS!
I found one on E-Bay for $25. Here is the description:
This is a burned copy of the COP CAR chip for the 1228746 ECU used in Camaros, Firebirds and Caprices with TBI engines from 1989-1992. The COP CAR (ANLU) chip was recently discontinued from GM. It is a good chip if you plan on putting a 350 in your Camaro or Firebird to replace your 305. There is no speed limiter on the COP CAR chip like there is on the Camaros (110mph). Also, the VATS security feature is also disabled since Caprices did not have that feature. If you want I can modify that chip to re-enable that feature at no additional charge. I can also make this chip for either a 5 SPEED or AUTOMATIC.
Thanks guys. A few years ago, I would not have had access to this kind of info and would not have attempted this. But with the good info you guys supply freely, I am going to give it a shot.
Maybe someday I can return the favor.
