I have an 89 camaro rs with a 355 it has a roller cam in it but im not sure if it's the stock roller cam or is it the l98 cam im going to find out tomorrow. and it has the stock 305 intake and throttle body. what i need to know is what should i do to this to wake it up im disappointed with it right now and any help would be very much appreciated. Oh and the car is all stock with 2:73 gears and a flowmaster dual outlet muffler. and stock computer

My LO3 was a dog, but it didn't take much to wake it up. I started with a screaming deal exhaust from (gulp) JC Whitney, nixed the smog and cat, added a Performer intake and Power Pullies, and a chip. Wow!
With just that little bit my 305 kept me interested for 3 years.
Also, never undersestimate the gains to had with a good tune-up!

A search will help. If you want to keep gas milage, and don't let computers intimidate you, stick with TBI. Your problem lies in the fact that you're running stock injectors and a stock chip that were meant for a 305. Larger injectors, with a custom chip, and the ultimate TBI mods or a larger TBI will help cure your problem. Other problems could be from: stock exhaust manifold, stock tbi manifold, weak or bad ignition set-up, and of course the pegleg rear-end.

You'd have to make a totally custom chip for that car starting from scratch which is a pita to do without any point to really start from.
The TBI doesn't flow enough cfms to handle a high performance 355, you need a carb. TBI has turned into a nightmare for me, it just has too many bottlenecks to be performance equipment to me. It doesn't seem to be worth the time and effort and aggrivation a large number of hardcore TBIers go through for pretty poor track times. Bolt on a carb guys, see those seconds just disappear.
Get a real cam, those stock ones stink. As far as recommending one, it depends on the way you drive it what type you want to go with.
A nice Weiand or Holley intake would do wonders with that Holley double pumper (I hate quadrajunk carbs myself) or similar type of carb.
Headers and a catback from SLP is pretty much the best available although decidely more expensive, so flowtechs work well for a set of headers.
3.42-3.73 rear gears are great for these motors and richmonds seem to be the best (although they do make a little noise, so deal with it)

I would go with a Holley 750cfm vac. secondaries. Demon makes some pretty sweet carbs but there sometimes $$$ Its up to u. But I think 750cfm would do that engine fine. Good luck man and bring us back some times. :lala:
