cam recommendation for 350 TBI w/ world S/R Torquer heads

Which one, LT4 hot cam, LT 4 cam, ZZ4 cam or LT1 cam.

I will be swapping in a 350 for the tired 305, getting a short block from a '97 truck and putting S/R torquer heads. Which cam should I get?

I'd go for the LT4 hot cam first with 1.6 rr's then the ZZ4 second. The production LT4 and LT1 cams are kinda a waste in a 350.

Thanks IROC22, I thought that the LT4 hot cam would be the right cam choice but I was not sure. Thanks for confirming.

Def. the LT4 hot cam.

The ZZ4 I believe is somewhere between the LT1 cam and the Hot cam, and the LT4 (regular) cam is just about the same as the LT1 cam.

just look through jegs/summit and get the biggest freakin cam u can find with the roughest idle. if u got a nice intake/exhaust setup the rpms should just fly up so u shouldnt have to worry about the range too much

A cam with no less than 112 degress lobe separation if you are going to run TBI. Even 112 can cause idle troubles. Get as much lift as your heads will support and the degrees duration that give you the powerband that you want.

I used a Comp Cam for a LT1 07-304-8. It's a mild cam and would probably recommend the 305 but the 114 LSA makes it more TBI friendly since the TBI is a speed density system.

The LT4 hot cam is a good choice if your going to change rockers anyway but will require more chip tuning than the Comp Cam. If you check out www.camaroz28.com most of those guy are running the CC305 cam instead of the LT4 hot cam.

It's more dependent actually on the duration being proportional to the LSA. The stock LSA is actually 109*; but because the duration is so low on the stock cam, it doesn't affect the TBI setup. The key is as the duration numbers go up, make sure the LSA numbers go up with it.

That is correct. I didn't figure anyone would by a new cam with anywhere near those specs.

Thanks for the replies, here is what I plan on doing.
Swap in a 350 for the 305 then add the following:
S/R Torquer heads, LT4 hot cam, Edelbrock Performer TBI intake manifold.

If you could, it would be much easier to put the cam/heads/intake on the 350 before you put it in the car.

Yea its definatlly easier to build the engine on the stand. The heads aint too too bad getting in, but the cam kinda sucks getting it in when the engine is in the car.

I do intend on building the engine first, hopefully I'll have enough cash in a few weeks so my friend can get the block and I can order the heads, cam, intake & everything else that he will need to do this swap.
