Bought an Edelbrock Performer TBI.... yay

I was wondering if i could expect any noticable gain by adding this intake. Also...are there any other things you guys recommend doing while i have the intake off to improve performance any?

My current setup is a stock 305 TBI with no mods except for an open element...after the intake I plan on doing a full exhaust setup next....then 3:73 posi. Sound ok? I wouldve done the exhaust first but i got the intake for $85 so I said what the hell.

Go ahead and add the LT1 cam while you have the intake off and at least double your hp gains.

Yeah if you plan to keep the 305 go ahead and throw an lt1 cam in there. Granted a cam swap is much harder than just the intake swap but your about a quater way there since youll have the intake off. I started to do a cam swap on my lo3...then i said well im this far I mid as well do heads...then i got the heads off and said....eww thats alot of carbon...since im this far ill just pull the motor. Well the motor is almost out only 2 more bolts holding the tranny on....9C1 LO5 is going in its place for now. anyways the lt1 cam would definetly be worth it but expect to buy a few extra things...

a bunch of gaskets
a 3-4'' gear puller (timing chain)
timing chain
power steering pulley remover (i wanted to paint the bracket)
new valve springs (depending on the milage)
lifter puller

the swap cost alot more than i thought it was going to...i spent about 200$ at least for the chain, gaskets, and the special tools. But im gonna take most of it back since im not going to need it.

I just bought a Edelbrock TBI intake too and I figured, why the hell not, its gonna be off, might as well get the cam too and so I picked up an LT1 cam from a buddy of mine for 20 bucks. Picked up a set of Edelbrock Elite Series valve covers w/ breather too for 60.00. Not to bad. Now I just gotta get the timing chain, gaskets and new valve springs (I get a small cloud of smoke on cold starts so I know my valve seals are bad) and I can start my winter project.

I couldnt get ahold of an air compressor so I put rope in the cyclinders. What I did was feed about 5 feet of 1/4'' cord into my cyclinder and turn the engine by pulling the belt until it stopped. Then I used a spring compressor to get the retainers out and the springs off. If your gonna do the valve seals and cam swap go ahead and order a set of k-motion springs...dont get ****ty advance auto springs like i did (hey i get a discount) I broke a springs after 2 weeks. I didnt know the spring broke and I had a dead cyclinder so i thought the motor was dead...well started to pull the motor apart and relized what the problem was...then i decided to swap cams...then i said im this far im pulling the heads...then i saw the cyclinders....said EWW thats disgusting...then i decided it was time to replace the lo3...see what one stupid problem can lead to

bye bye lo3

Either bore or radius the TBI holes out to 2". You will be glad you did if you ever decide to step up to a bigger TBI unit.

I got one too

Hey, i got an edelbrock manifold, does yours have sleeves in the tbi bores? mine seems to have sleeves that extend down to a few inches from teh bottom of the plenum, my only guess is that they block the egr from shooting exhaust directly up the tbi? Could you possibly post pictures of yours? thanks

I'm new to the board

Hi guys, I have another question about the intake with sleeves.

Do you think someone lined the intake with the sleeves?
Is it really only the egr ports that are covered? Could you
post or send me pictures of your ports?

Also I had bought a new Edelbrock intake and it was an older
first edition and when I measure the bore holes they are already
at 2.00". I find it hard to understand why they would stop
making them 2.00" now.

Just wondering

I don't actually have any way to post pics, but is there a little ridge at the top of your bores? cus i think if my sleeves are out it looks about 2", but there is a slight ridge, so the rolled top of the sleeve can fit flush with the mounting surface for the tbi.

I am considering putting the intake on, but i will want to put the lt1cam in also, woudl that pass ca smog do you think? also, i want to get some worldproducts heads, has anyone heard anything about them? or maybe vortecs? I dunno, i have a set of drilled and tapped vortecs on my 70 chevelle, so the smog wouldn't be a problem there, cus it would look stock from teh top side, if i swapped them to the firebird. I know that there is a vortec engine that is smaller, the 5300 i think? would those work better? or is the bore sized the same as the 350, just with a shorter stroke? Or is there a way to stroke the 305? Sorry, this may be off topic, i just happened to come up with all these question while lookign at this.

I don't see why it wouldn't pass. Both the intake and the cam are 50 state legal.
