Why is my rebuilt L03 running so wierd?
Why is my rebuilt L03 running so wierd?
hey everyone, I just got my engine rebuilt with this work done:
LT1 cam,
Iroc heads, port and polished
30 over
raised compression
and 3 inch exhaust
when I touch the gas i have less low end torque then my moms saturn, and when i am moving and touch the gas about quarter throttle it bogs down. like the rpms shoot down, then up, then down, then back up and it all feels really jerky
any idea what could be wrong? My dad thinks it could be a couple valves to tight or loose.

Could be a bunch of things...how much did you raise the compression? How about the timing? TBI305Camao is probably right with the chip problem cause the stock chip still thinks it's running the old combo. Especially what that cam.
the timing is at 10 degrees advance. and they said they took twenty thousanths of an inch off of the heads. I dont know what the raises the compression to?
If I need a chip where do I go to get a custom one burnt and how much do they usually cost?

When I needed a chip, I just posted a wanted ad in the classified section in this site and found someone with a similiar setup as mine to burn me a chip for 50 bucks. I would suggests trying to find someone who has experience in burning chips for a setup similar to yours.

yer stock chip aint gona cut it there bud. youre most likely going lean and then rich too rapidly = ecm cant figure anything out.
need a custom chip or go carb.

i went carb...cant tell you if it was worth it or not yet because it wont stay running. Not the carbs fault tho...fuel pump wont stay on. I think I got rid of way to many sensors and it freaked the ECM out completly.
do you guys think my valves could be causing some of this problem too??
When is it bogging down? Because with the bigger cam you should looses some low end torque.
It bogs when i'm in the 1000-2000 rpm range. When I touch the gas it will shake and bounce until it hits 2000 rpm's, then it smoothes out and is fine. Also, when i'm at a stop light it shakes slightly too.
It's just the LT1 cam and I was told that will work fine with the car so I don't think it is the cam but maybe it could be?

That sounds familiar. I think some of your valves are a bit too tight. Also that cam under the stock chip should be running a little rich under 1500 rpm. So that could be another reason but I would defiantly go back a recheck your valves.
Ya before I had the rebuild done my only engine mod was the cam and my mechanic couldn't believe how rich it was running just from the smell and checking the tail pipes.
Does anyone know if I just have to tell someone what my mods are to get myself a chip burned? Or do I have to know all of the specs?
I know the specs to the cam and my exhaust. But the heads and compression im not to sure what the specs are so will this be a big problem?

You should just do the chip yourself, it’s not near as hard as everyone seems to think.
But if you are going to pay some one to burn a chip for you, you need to at least know cam specs, compression, injector size, fuel pressure, and exhaust.

turns out that when the engine was being installed, they dropped 3 of the plugs and they had cracked. The valves were off slightly too and those were adjusted. I can smell gas so that means it is still running to rich right?
I will probably get a chip next week so hopefully that will help
