I need info on building up a TBI motor.

I rebuilt it 18,000 miles ago to stock specs its a 4 Bolt main 350 forged engine. My question is which Heads, Cam, and Intake would be best for a good power gain? I am looking into getting the motor in the 350hp range before super charging. I mostly need torque out of this motor. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

tahth soudns like a pretty reasonable goal. are you plannign on a roots style blower or a centrifugal? what compression are you running? what is your budget? what car is this goin into?
these answers will get us a good basis to help you.

I was planning to run a roots style super charger. I have 9:5:1 and its going into my full-size GMC truck. As far as a budget I do not want to say I don't have one but I want great performance for a good cost. 1500 Range depending.

Alright, this might help you out. This is the cheapo engine in my RS, (well actually now its my dads, but I put it together before i wrecked it.)

Chevy 355
Hyp. pistons
9:1 compression
S/R torquer heads (170cc 2.02/1.60 valves)
stock TBI with larger injectors (from 305)
SLP headers i believe 1 5/8 inch but i forget
sealed power cam (252/262 adv. dur, .420/.443 lift)
installed -6 degrees
catco cat
flowmaster cat back system

makes 353 hp from 5000 to 5500 rpm
396 ft/lb torque at 4000 rpm
isnt the fastest, but its ok for less than 2500$ starting from scratch.

I am not looking to bore out the motor as I just rebuilt it. I have headers with true dual exhaust going on the truck. Is there any kinda "Combo" I guess you could say of Cam Intake Heads and T/b? That would seriously increase the power of this motor?

Btw: The truck is standard shift.

I am currently looking for a 1990-92 truck for my TBI buildup since I am just about done with the 350 for my Camaro.

I was planning for 400hp using the following.

rebuilt 350 shortblock balanced and blueprinted. Forged pistons and 6" rods.

prolightening heads since they have some great flow numbers.

Wieand 7525 Intake with TBI adapter.

454 TBI unit or the Holley 670 depending on what I find at the time.

Hooker Long tube headers with heated 02 sensor since the long tubes will place the sensor further from the head.

Competition Cams 08-306-8 290HR-12 cam with 290/307 duration 230/244 @.050" and .510"/.540" lift on a 112 degree lobe separation. http://www.competitioncams.com/catal...85.html#Anchor

Here is what I have on mine:

Stock heads 9.3:1 compression , lt1 Cam, Flowtech Headers, no cat, 3 inch exhaust, edelbrock TBI intake that has been reemed out for the 2 in bore on the Holley 670 TBI unit.

In a few months I am going with AFR 185 heads and 1.6 RR's. This should net you a little better than what you are looking for. One thing though... be careful with how much boost you run since you are already running decent compression.

I was planning on going with 6psi boost. I don't think that will harm much. What if I went with AFR 190s 1.6 RR Edelbrock performer Rpm intake with Tbi adapter The full exhaust Msd Ignition what size cam would you guys recommend? Remember I am looking for low end torque. What kinda numbers will I be pulling in?

I am thinking about building a similar motor. I just took a recently rebuilt 355 out of my brother's 86 Suburban (has about 8,000 since rebuild). I plan on building that to around 330 HP before dropping it in my '88 Formula.

Check out these kits. I think this is the direction that I am leaning towards.

If anyone sees a problem with this kit, or reccommends one over the other, please be sure to let me know.

Yes, the AFR's are miles ahead of the Vortech's.

As far as which cam, I like the Comp Cams series. I wouldn't go over a .480 lift though, that is just personal preference.

I wasnt planning on the 1200 kit, prolly jsut the 800 or 900 one(#2 or #3 on that link). the kits come with an Intake too. I dont think that is so bad. What do the AFR's run? Anything special I would have to do to them to make them work?

How much better are they????
