Lt-1 heads on a tbi 305
Lt-1 heads on a tbi 305
Im new to the site, and i was reading some of the post and wante to know what you thought about this. I have a 92 rs with the tbi 305. Will a set of LT-1 heads off a 96 Z work on the 305 and can i still keep the tbi. thanks.
don't think so, but not sure. the LT1 is a reverse coolant flow engine, meaning the coolant flows through the heads before the block. I don't think these heads are compatible with a non LT1 block.
of course if I am wrong, someone out there will shout about it soon enough.

peopel have gotten LT1 heads onto standard motors by doing soem machine work on teh coolant passages, the bolt pattern and other things remain standard, so they will bolt on. never heard of any great gains from teh swap.
it would prolly be easier/ more benficial / more cost effective to get a set of iron L98 heads and have soem mild port adn polish and a valve job done to them.

forget the l98 heads too unles you can get a set from a vet. i would go with a set of vortec's and a carb intake with adapter it i had to do it
Interesting, that is, machining the passages...hadn't thought of that.
doesn't the LT1 use a different intake bolt pattern than a conventional small block? I know GM makes a carb intake for LT1 use, and it doesn't have a thermostat housing in the "normal" location.
that would be an interesting swap.

Why use a carb intake with the vortecs? GMPP just tossed out a Vortec TBI intake

Yeah it's true. If you plan on doing slightly more work to bolt up the TBI unit, the added plenum volume will generate more power at higher RPM's and with FI, you won't lose in down low.
