TBI injector max fuel pressure...

I read a whole bunch of good stuff in the archives. I found a post or two that said the screens on the injectors can't handle that much pressure.

Does anyone have any info to confirm or deny this? If it was that big of a deal I would just take the screens off.

Probably wouldn't hurt if you used a good inline filter right before the tb as insurance against dirt messing up an injector.

I haven't heard of anybody needing to remove the screens. Must be something somebody thought of but never went ahead and tested. High pressure just puts more load on the injector drivers. I haven't looked at TBI injectors much since I did the engine swap but what screens are you talking about exactly? Got a picture.

Steve, that's what I was thinking...if I HAD to take the screens out.

JPrevost...I don't have a picture, but I can get one later on today...

I wouldn't say that the pressure would be a problem. What would cause a problem is the flow and that over time the screens clog. The steel fuel lines rust on the interior and slowly coat the screens with minute pieces of iron oxide.

Then a pressure differential builds up during high flow rates (WOT anyone?). This is what causes the problem.

And I have no idea why GM stopped terne coating the inside of the fuel lines. It is really stupid.

I just might run -6 AN all the way from the tank to the TBI then I bought the injectors new from the dealer about 2 years ago. I've since had the TBI unit apart a couple hundred times. Twice I think I took the screens off the shot some brake cleaner thru them from the inside...just because I could. NOT because they were clogged.

The server will only allow attached files smaller than .0000000001 MB so I'll just e-mail them to you JPrevost.

If injector driver heat really becomes an issue I could always hack out a square in the ECM case and heat-sink them...with a CPU fan on top or something.

I guess you fellas don't see any problems with the screens with the pressure at 18 psi...

I ran new hardline from the back to the front, then picked up with -6 through the engine compartment. The hardline I used was from an auto store with flared ends. It is also coated on the inside and out.

Attached pic is an injector w/new screens then run at 30psi for a while.

I have a contact who is an engineer with GM. He has personally run the TB injectors upward of 70 psi. He made no mention of problems with filters. I personally run around 22 lbs at WOT.

Bill, would I be asking too much if your contact could verify the flow ratings of the BBC injectors and possibly the existence of larger alcohol TBI injectors?

This would be a great asset to our cause.

Thanks,

RBob.

By flow rate, you mean lbs per hour? We have been unable to veriy existence of higher flow injectors thru the contacts on the board.

Yes, lbs/hr, cc/sec, whatever is feasible.

What we have been running into is discrepancies in what we think are the real flow ratings. It can make a real difference when trying to set up and tune.

Do a search on the power adder board, I believe B4Ctom has experience with supercharged TBI trucks running 50-60 psi, not positive though.
