Slumming it...

Due to increase in gas prices I'm thinking of switching from 91 octane to 87 octane. Will this F'up my engine?

Pull down your timing to 0* advance and you should be a-OK, esp if you're running the stock chip with stock heads/cam/intake. I used to run 87 when the old wallet was empty

What is the stock timing (you are talking about the distributer right)?

Unless you have some insane compression or something, you won't need to do any timing crap to run 87 octane gas. Your car has a computer that thakes care of that for you (that's what the knock sensor is for). The only time 87 won't cut is is if you are somewhere near 10.5 or 11 to 1 compression. Read CHP, Hot Rod, Car Craft, Motor Trend, most new cars are designed for 87 octane fuel and some of the engine build-ups are running 87 octane gas. I used to run 85 in my old Firebird and it did just fine. The only reason I run 91 in the GTA, is because it is cleaner and less likly to clog an injector, but a good fuel filter will solve that little SNAFU.

if you do the math it doesn't seem that bad.

I can't remember the tank size on the 3rd gen but I remember it being SMALL...

...so assume 15 gallon...

15 gal * 1.89 = 28.35
15 gal * 2 = 30

You're saving a whole $1.65.

I have a 27 gallon tank. I'm already pumping $30 of gas into it at a time...I figure another dollar or two for the good stuff...I'm not even going to notice it.
