How do I remove this bolt from my smog pump!!!
The bottom one came right off and the top one is satan himself. I have tried everything. It is stripped beyond all hope so I drilled a slot into it to use a flathead screw driver but It just won't budge. Can I just cut around it with my dremel or can I drill it out. Here is a pick of the bolt that I am talking about.

I am about ready to do that but I wanted to keep the bracket in one piece. Oh well, I geuss I can always replace it if I were to ever put the stuff back on. I am pretty sure I can pass the sniffer without it (I have a cat). I don't have smog where the car is registered but may when I move after school.

I'd set the a/c compressor to the side if ya can and get at it with some vise-grips... spray some PB blaster in there too at 2-3 hour intervals for a day or so and I bet it'll turn loose. Whatever you do, DO NOT do any hot wrenching on it. Those acessory brackets are aluminum and, well, you get the idea.

I am not sure what hot wrenching is but I am pretty sure that I am not doing that. Just drilling it out. I may try to get at it with vice grips.

If I cut it off flush will that be enough for the pump to slide out? Would I have to drill into it a bit to clear the bolt from the bracket?
Make sure you use the right torx the first time, 2 of them will fit, a small one, and a big one. Thats a mistake alot of people make.
What I did.....This is a VW trick.
Get a big hammer and a chisel(sp) and hit the head of the bolt counter-clockwise. Eventually, it should break loose.

An air chisel works great too. We had one when I worked at Lube Time to break loose drain plugs that were too tight. We called it "The Persuader"

Well I got it out. I took off the AC compressor and set it aside and was able to grab it with some vice grips. I did damage the bracket (trying to drill it out) but the threads are okay and can be reused if I ever put it back on. Thanks for all of your help. I am now trying to find a belt that will fit. I hear the 968K6 is the one to get. I had a 967K6 belt that was to short by a couple of inches.
