Hey man just wondering how does your car sound with the 2030cam with the 116 lobe sep.? Don't you have a flowmaster on it?
The reason that I'm asking is that I've got a cam with the specs:
215/218 dur, 489/503 lift with a 115 lobe sep. I got this from a guy that had it in a 350 with headers a flowmaster and no cat and his car sounded like ****. It sounded like something rattling in a tin can, but ran very well.
I've got the flowmaster, I'll be running this in a 350 with headers and with a cat is my car going to sound like crap also? Why did his sound so bad, is it the lobe sep. that causes this?
I'm thinking of running Air Flow Research 180cc heads, Edlebrock tbi intake opened to 2 inch bores with a 670tbi. What kind of power would this combo make?

Hey if anyone else has any idea how the lobe sep. affects the sound please jump in. Could it be something about this cam that made my buddies car sound bad with the flowmaster, cause I like the way mine sounds right now.
Why don't you go with a Holley projection tbi intake, it's already set up for a 2" bore tb or 670tbi? Try an experiment and take the cat off your car now and see how much of a difference it makes, that may be where the tinny sound is comming from.

Well, I already have the performer tbi and I've heard the Holly intake is a ****, it takes some modification to get everything lined up.
I may try removing the cat, but I was going to run one since this one is a new 3 inch unit. Also I've heard cars with a flowmaster and no cat and they didn't sound that way, but I think they had the stock cam.

I do have the 2030, SLP Headers, 3" Cat and Flowmaster 3" setup.
I think it sounds pretty good, but exhaust sound is pretty subjective. What one guy likes another may not.
Still, I've heard 350's with stock cams and low compression that sound like a six cylinder with a Flowmaster on it.
With 116 degrees of lobe separation, there's no lopey idle, but the 2030 sounds healthy, especially between 2000 and 5500 rpm.
As far as the other cam ,well it's hard to speculate as there are so many variables. Valve timing can add or take away compression depending on how early or late the opening and closing are.
As for the Edelbrock intake, I've heard that they can be safely bored out, but Edelbrock doesn't recommend it as there's not much extra meat in there.
I'm running a Turbo City throttle body (not as big as the Holley, but bored larger than stock) on the Edelbrock TBI intake, but the intake is just chamfered to clear, down about 1/8".

So does compression have much effect on the sound? My friends car sounds fine at idle but it's when he's accelerating that you hear this sound that's like there was something loose in his muffler.
Would a higher compression like 10:1 make much difference in sound as compared to say something like 9:1?
