what kind of mileage do you get now. should be around the 18/25 range
mine is only getting 15/20 right now though

do complete exhaust. from the manifolds to the mufflers
check the tech section and do a search on this board for ultimate tbi mods.
and get better gears out back the 2.73/3.08 suck
do you have a stick or auto?

hope this helps

For mileage I would first do a tune up then get an aftermarket ignition and full exhaust.

Ha! after my LT1 cam swap i can only squeeze out maybe 14 city... usually 10 to 11 though Before when it was stock, i could get around 25 freeway and maybe 16-18 city...

Keep your foot out of it and things might improve

edit: If you beef it up like i did, get the right gears to keep it in its power band. Hopefully my slp posi will get here june 2, and i can put in my 3.42's :lala:

exhaust and ignition will help, i simply changed my spark plugs to the platinum 2 and my mpg went up by like 5 miles per gallon

Any time you "beef up" the engine you are pretty much going to see a reduction in gas mileage.

I agree with the other posts. Upgrade your ignition and exhaust system. This will allow your car the breath better and your combustion will be more efficent. Another possibility is an aluminum drive shaft. A lighter drive shaft will require less power to turn. Also, one of the most important factors in fuel consumption is proper tire inflation.

None of these things by themselves will give you a noticable increase in mileage. Together, they will make a difference at the fuel pump.

After that it will all be up to you. Jackrabbit starts and a heavy foot will be your worst enemy.

Things to do to improve mileage
  • New ignition system
  • New spark plugs
  • New K&N Air filter
  • NO LEAD FOOT

Under drive pulleys can help............burn out your altenator.
Do a search on underdrives and see.

Headers, y pipe, cat and cat-back will be your best bet for now.

There is plenty to do after that.

When your tires say the max psi on them (like in my case with the KDWs, they say 44 psi max I think) how far below that should you fill them? I've got mine at 38 psi now. I'm always good to keep them all the exact same pressure, but what's a good pressure for good gas mileage? -89IRO

Max psi is just that the MAX you shouldn't keep your tires there. I usually have 32psi or 31psi in my tires, although they are lowly bfg radial ta's.

5 speed, flowmaster exhaust, clogged cat, k&n open element, msd coil, nothing special just the basics, still got the factory 3.08's in it too. cruise right around 2500 rpm, if i do 80 i get about 260-270

try replacing the fuel filter, 02 sensor, and a good tune up, that and try doing 90 on the highway your next road trip, i was getting ****ty mileage to till i decide to stop caring about and started driving with a heavy foot, just got to find the right rpm for your car, might help that mines a 5 speed too
