You can't use LT1 heads. The closest to them are Vortec heads.
But an LT1 cam will work. Although it'd be a waste with Vortec heads IMHO
The LT1 heads are "reverse cooling" heads. They take A LOT of mods to work with a Gen I block.
Are they going on your 305?

You would be better off getting some world products Sr torquer 305 heads or some milled vortecs. Both will run you 600-700 bucks and will be a direct bolt on that can take a serious cam.

Aluminum LT1 heads from a Gen II LT1 engine (1992-1997 applications) can be modified to flow coolant like a conventional Gen I head so it really has been done before..... but since you're asking this question, you probably don't have the skills to do the work. Technically what can be done for the aluminum heads can also be done for the iron LT1 heads, but welding cast iron is MUCH more tricky than welding aluminum -- so you may as well forget about altering the iron LT1 heads.
There are threads on either the TPI or Engine Technical forums here on 3rd gen that discuss using Gen II LT1 heads on Gen I engine blocks (links are listed there too), if you really want to learn more about it and what's involved. Then you can decide if it's worth pursuing.
If you really want aluminum heads and don't have the DIY fabrication skills needed to mod the LT1 heads, then L98 Ycar heads would be the inexpensive bolt-on choice. Aftermarket (and newer) aluminum heads would flow better than the L98s, but they'll also cost a lot more money. HTH.
