TBI/Ram Air ?
I did a search on Ram Air and TBI and Im still not to sure about this. Does the Ram Air make a big differance on a TBI ?
Or is it even noticable. Now the ones Ive seen seems to pull the air from under the car, could this be done through the front vents on my hood ? (picture attached)

It's easy and much less expensive to just throw an open element on there, which will make for a nice gain over the restrictive stock piece.
Not to many people have gone with ram air with tbi, due to the lack of available aftermarket pieces, namely the piece needed to fit over the TBI. However, the ones that have done it have good things to say about. I think swerve-driver has probably fabbed the highest quality cold air system so far. I'd really like to see him mod it to ram air (you know you want to swerve!
), but if worse comes to worse, the slp ram air for tpi would work w/ his set-up.
I'm not quite sure if ram air would work well with your hood vents, mainly do to the angle. It could actually hurt performance, as the oncoming air could create a vacuum and run right over the vents, thus actually hurting the air flow.
I believe there is a tech article on this site for tbi firebirds for making ram air.
BTW, I'm right down the way in good 'ol **** Noster, so if you wanna get together sometime let me know. The ride on 23 is always fun in the 'maro

So which am I needing to look into a cold air or ram air?
I was thinking about making my own setup for the ram air but for a cold air I was thinking about ordering the Tornado canister from JC whittney. They claim it increases 24 % gas mileage and also adds 4-13 HP.

Don't go with the tornado. Much has been discussed on it over at the aftermarket product review board. Not many good things were said.
Here is in my opinion, the best fab cold air system for our cars to date https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=196535
Also, here is the tech article for ram air tbi firebirds https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/tbiramair.shtml
Best of luck,
Roy

In my mind, cold air intake is just as good as ram air. You have to be going so fast, and have a big scoop setup, for there to a noticalbe increase in air pressure.

I have been thinking about making that "big block" fiberglass camaro hood into a function scoop and marrying it to some sort of caprice-type TBI air box under the hood. This is the hood that looks like a mid-60s corvette hood. I really like the look of the scoop, but am not wild about the way it continues up to a cowl induction, so that would need to be addressed as well. I will need a little more justification for buying a a hood that expensive, though. Maybe at the tail end of the next engine build, I'll see what is left in the bank.
I imagine in the mean time, I could get off my azz and try to fab up some sort of TPI ram-air. I do have the Z-28 grill and TPI air cleaners, so just need to connect the two.
I will start to look at finishing the cold air TPI set up.
