Headlights died? AHHH HELP

ok, I was stopped at a red light...I had my music on pretty loud...and my lights were dimming as the bass hit.
When it turned green I kinda stepped on it........

all the sudden my headlights flickered and shut down.....I panic'd and pulled into a parking lot....I had to drive the whole way home with my brights on.

When I got home, I checked all the fuses under the dash....they all looked normal.... I noticed that when I turn on my headlights....all the lights go on (blinkers, taillights, etc) except the headlights. When I turn on my brights......all 4 lights go on. WTF!!!!!

Does anyone have any ideas? I dono what to do

Thanks

IIRC i think its a fuseable link but since the high beams still work the fuses are fine. Sounds like the selector switch for the low/high beams may be bad.

i think the switch itself is in the steering column at the base of the stalk. Id sugest getting the chiltons manual for the fbody car. Not the greatest manual but it comes with a reprint of the supplemental gm wiring diagrams. Theyre not in color like the origional but none the less they will help you trouble shoot the circuit to see if the switch itself is bad or possibly there is a break somwhere else. Ive never had to replace anything in the steering column but i hear it can be a pain in the butt to get apart to repair stuff. If you ahve to come somewhere you could jsut disconenct the high beams. That should leave you with just the low beams for driving.

If I may add my 2 cents. I think there may be a possibility you may have just over stressed your low filaments in the headlights. my unorthodoxed method to check them is to take a headlight out, take a small power battery charger and put the neg. clamp on the headlight ground prong and touch the pos. clamp of the charger to on of the other two prongs. if it lights up when you touch both of the positive prongs, then that means your headlights are ok. one prong is the high filament and the other is low. if only one of them lights the head light up then you have a bad headlight. easier than tearing your column apart. if the headlights check out ok then you got problems. the reason I think it's your headlights is because they share a ground and if you overload the ground with your amp, this could give you problems. My suggestion after this is to get a stabilizer loop from best buy or radioshack or some thing. Not sure if that's what it's called but I know that's what it's for. They usually have one in amp wire kits. it looks like just a loop of wire with a connector on it.

no prob. see I think you may have just over loaded the lower filament because those are the ones that were burning when this happen. If you test the headlights and they check out to be ok, then you may have to tear the steering column apart. which I have done before so I will be more than happy to guide you through it.
