A little setup first: KCIR about 70*, beautiful night
Only race mods were no air cleaner and tire pressure of 45psi up front and 34psi in the rear
My problems going into the night:
Blown header gasket (Number 2 cylinder)
Driveshaft hitting the safety loop
Changed 5 spark plugs that were horribly black, didn't have time for the other 3
found oil on the driverside plugs
But anyways, on to the interesting stuff:
My best trap run
r/t......... .600
'60.........2.080
330........5.765
1/8.........8.765
MPH.......82.54
1000'.....11.333
1/4........13.476
MPH.......105.39
My best time
r/t........ .597
'60........2.052
330.......5.687
1/8........8.691
MPH......82.36
1000'....11.271
1/4........13.432
MPH......104.22
My final run looked like this:
r/t......... .670
60'........2.230
330.......5.889
1/8.......8.873
MPH......82.86
1000'....11.434
1/4........13.579
MPH.......104.99
I made a total of 7 runs, toyed with the timing some, but double ran many times because I was dissapointed with my launches.
I am happier with my '60s, they're not too bad considering my crappy street tires. I found that warming these particular tires is a must, though I also bogged off the line 6 of the 7 times
oh well. One of these days I'll have the chip tuned to where hopefully I won't have to worry about bogging so bad down low

I am happy to have made it over the 105mph trap
But I was really hoping for 106+
I think the blown header gasket was holding me back from reaching that goal. The extra drag from the driveshaft hitting the stupid safety loop is another attributing factor.
Oh well. Next time I run, it's going to be with the edelbrock rpm airgap on there, as the piece of crap intake on there right now keeps leaking. It may actually slow me down while I still have the 2bbl tbi on there, but will help in the long run once I swap it out.
I'm also hoping to fab up ram air with my tpi aircleaner. I need all the air I can get, and the thicker the better! Hot engine heat is no good when you're in need!

The 60' foot times dropped considerably from your previous post- they look much better.
Conrats on breaking the 105 barrier, I knew the 383 had the capability and then some.
If you like, get your time posted on the registry: http://www.geocities.com/machowalkclub/TBIRegistry.xls
Your times will put you up there.
I see in your last post you said: "I'm also hoping to fab up ram air with my tpi aircleaner". Are you planning to go through the hood or through the grill vents? I am rounding the corner on the ram-air ducts TPI-to-grill ducts and would be happy to post drawings for the sheet metal when fitment is complete. It is taking more time than I thought, but I'd like to make it fit correctly.

Times look pretty good. Getting the tuning, gasket, and DS fixed will defineatly help ya out a ton...

Thanks for the compliments guys. I think I'm just gonna chop the ds sefety loop off, I've about had it with that thing. And of course the blown header gasket would have to be on the passanger side, a real pita
I think doing the burnouts helped my 60's as well. I was always told that you don't want to do that with street tires, so I never would. But I also have cheap La Mans tires on there...... I'm hoping for much lower 60's with some lca and relocation brackets, and maybe riding the clutch a little bit to keep from bogging so bad.
As far as the ram air goes, I plan on doing like you are swerve. I saw a kit for a $100 that looked pretty nice, but I forget who makes it. But hopefully I can follow your example and drawings and maybe save some money. My big issue is finding something to fit over the tbi, especially once I get that air gap in there and have hood clearance issues. I was thinking about going with the K&N piece, but then heard that it can't flow enough air. I dunno
Maybe next time at the track, I'll just take off the hood and throw a scoop over the tbi

But this is what was said about it:
Specifications:
* Minimum clearance required above the carburetor flange: 3 1/8 in.
* Outside diameter: 9 in.
* Center of plenum to snorkel distance: 6 in.
* Works best with small displacement engines under 200 c.i.d. or low revving V6/V8 engines. If the engine requires more than 45 sq. in. of filter area, then this plenum should not be used because the carburetor will have to be re-jetted and a loss of high rpm power will result.

How about the L69 dual snorkel or one of those "ram air" snorkels they sell in the back of hotrod magazine, etc.? You could always do what I plan on doing and get an open element with a cowl hood. BTW, with street tires you want to do a short burnout to clean them off, but not long enough for them to get hot.
What about building a custom one?

I have looked into the ram air boxes and dual snorkels and would like to use them, but both are pretty expensive. But my main concern is with hood clearance once I get the rpm air gap on there along with the adapter plate. I need to get an aftermarket hood, either a cowl or ss hood, possibly makinf the ss hood functional ram air
I've thought of a few ways on building my own air cleaner piece, like enclosing an open element and fabbing a 3" opening or so. Or even better, try to follow swerve-driver's efforts. But then it all comes down to my lousy fab skills. But I will probably end up going that route anyways as it is the most cost effecient way, and I would be able to get it to fit right. It just wouldn't look that pretty!

Cut and try, cut and try, cut and try...... I thought I had the ducts in final form, but, after replacing the two rods that form an "X" in front of the radiator, I see the ducts still need some clearancing. More cut and try. Thankfully I still have some poster board left. I've been at this since Labor day weekend. jeeezzz.
R90camaroRS- Instead of going with a Caprice airbox-custom plenum like I did, would you consider maybe modding the stock air cleaner to a point where it would mate up with the stock TPI rubber flex hose?
I'm thinking along the lines of creating an air box that looks like the K&N one, except that the rear radius would be as large as the stock air cleaner and the end where the TPI hose attaches would be an oval, like the TPI rubber hose. It's length would be based on the distance from the TBI to the end of the rubber TPI flex hose. If the filter was left in the air cleaner, the filters in the TPI unit would not be required. Or could reverse that situation and use the TPI filters.
Hmmmmm, that might be more straight forward than what I did, and I think it would give it a better look than having a round air cleaner with a piece of 3" pipe punched into the front of it. It would also provide a little more volume of air within the airbox, which can't hurt anything.

Well, I should be with ram air pretty soon. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=201913 I'm hoping to gain a tenth or two once I get it on there. I'm also hoping to gain another tenth or two when I fix that header leak. Who knows, maybe with the mod and fix, I'll be right around 13 flat @ 107+.
What's gonna make your break me for the time being is the rpm air gap intake going on there monday. I know it would do me good once I get a good flowing TB, but with only the 2bbl on there, it may hurt performance. Any thoughts?

You'll like the air gap intake, the main I noticed is very little power loss at higher engine temps, compared to normal hot intakes. If you havent already ported that tb out, I would do so, also I would polish the tb and the intake to a dull luster with a dremel and wire wheel attachment.

get some slicks and 12's will be a walk in the park.
I'm seriously thinking about it. I just wanna make sure I have enough $$$ saved to cover the cost of a 12 bolt or 9" if my 10 bolt goesget some slicks and 12's will be a walk in the park.
