looking for new cam
i was wondering what a good cam would be for my 305, 89 RS.
i plan on getting headers and true duals at the same time as the cam. i dont want to overcam it, but to give better low and mid range, and a nice sound. i dont want to do any computer programing. any suggestions

youll definately need to do some chip tuning if you get a new cam, if you want to go mild, try finding a L98 (350 TPI) camshaft, you can pick up used ones for under 20 bucks and since they are hydralic roller cams, they dont wear much.

There are a lot of options on this. I don't know if your car is stock or has modifications and if so, what they are.
You may want to try the search feature on this site and narrow your search by using a combination of terms like "cam AND TBI AND off-idle" or similar terms.
Or you can check the Comp Cams catalog and check out their Extreme Energy line of cams for computer controlled cars. That section is located near the top of page 144 of the Comp catalog.
There are other cams out there for sure, I am just most familiar with Comp.
Here is a link to the catalog:
http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Ca...-03/#camshafts
Go to the section under General Motors 128-169. Then scroll down to page 144.
For exhaust have you considered something like a Flowmaster 3" single system with dual outlets (out of the muffler)? It may be a little lower cost and have nearly identical performance for a 305. Just a thought.
Good luck with your mods and welcome-

Also- As you look for a cam, I believe the general consensus is that you need a cam with at least 112* lobe seperation (LSA).

The problem with these cars is that you have to prepare your car for the cam. You cannot have any weak links and we all know that these cars have them. You really need a strong running stock fuel pump or a high volume one. You will need a ton of tuning no matter how tame a cam you go with. Depending on the size of the cam you may need bigger injectors and TBI unit. So if I were you I would add custom prom, fuel pump, and an afternoon for the ultimate TBI mods for starters. You will thank yourself when you car runs the way it should after the swap.
