I think you will have to cut the baffles out to run 1.6 RR's.

Baffles are the verticle supports in your valve cover. if you took one off and flipped one over you would see what I mean. You can cut them out and still not have any oil leaks or problems with the valve covers. Or you could buy new ones that have clearance for larger rockers.

i beleive crane makes some that are narrowed boddied and fit. call summit and talk to one of their people, they can point you in the right direction. if it was me, i woudl run the comp pro-mag RR's, they are THE choice for a RR for a street car.

IMHO its not worth it on a basicly stock L03, there are alot better places to toss $250.

I gained over 2 tenths and over 1 MPH from installing some Federal Mogul Stamped Steel 1.6 rocker arms, only $68 from www.sdpc2000.com

I was under the impression that the comp pro magnum roller rockers would fit under the stock valve covers with the baffles intact? Anybody know for sure?

i would have to look, i run guideplates, so when i priced them they were like $256 from summit. not sure if the SA ones are the same price or not.

well, you would have to buy guideplates and pushrods and screw in studs, so you are over $100 to switch over.

check out thunder racing. They're a lot cheaper than summit or jegs.

wow thunder racing is much cheaper, the promags were like $287 there vs. $324 at summit.

The thunder racing site claims you can run the 1.6 promags with the stock valve covers.

If i were to switch to 1.6 rr's would there be anyother parts that i would have to replace? springs, valves, etc.? any i should replace? specify difference in 'have to' and 'should' please.

springs are a maybe, i am not sure how much lift the stockers take. replacing springs is a good idea though. with howevermany 100k miles our cars have, they are going to be worn out. that is really the only thing you would need to think about replacing.

I've wanted to know the stock spring rates for a while now, but I dont think it would matter anyways. The stock cam is so dinky that even with 1.6's you would barely be over .4 lift and still way under that on the intake side. I doubt you would have problems, going from what others have experienced with 1.6 rockers on your cars.

I ran the comp magnum 1.6's with stock cam and stock valve springs and had good results. I had 150k miles on those stock springs. It pulled a couple hundred rpm's higher than it did without them. Then I went and changed the cam to a '95 lt1, which gave me .480 lift so i had to do the springs. I'll check out thunder racing next time I need parts- wish I knew about them before.

i was told you cant run thoes rockers with the stock covers untouched unless you either ran a thicker valve cover gasket or ran 2 gaskets....

can anyone confirm that for me?

the comp 1.6 magnums I used with the stock valve covers. They clear fine. But I am talking about the "roller tip" rockers. You may be talking about the "roller fulcrum" ones, designed like aluminum ones? If you are, I don't have experience with them but I understood it to be common knowledge that you'd have to use the "tall" valve covers with that type.

yes we are talking about the full rollers. i beleive i have read that they fit, you may have to do some hammering on the valve covers for clearance, but i have not tried it.
