RS engine build up
I would like to do a few mods to my RS. But I have a few questions.
1. I would like to put some TPI (LB9) heads on the car. Where are the casting numbers? I saw a long number that started with 141. Would that be it?
2. I would like to go with a better cam. I was thinking an L98 cam. Something mild but better than I have now.
3. I would like to put on an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Which one should I go with? I see them for TPI engines. Would that generate too much pressure for a TBI? And what is the fuel pressure on a stock TBI engine?
4. Headers, which ones work best for a '92 RS with and LO3.
5. After all of that I would like to custome tune a chip to make it all come together.
Give me some opinions on this set up and what do you think I can generate in HP.
Thanks.
Bill

Personally I'd go with a bit more aggressive cam but that's up to you. For the fuel pressure regulator just go to the Tech Articles for Ultimate TBI on this page and modify your regulator to be adjustable, its very easy.
Headers, I'd go with the Hooker 2055's. Just make sure you go with some 1 5/8" primaries into 3" collectors and a 3" Y pipe then make sure you finish off the exhaust with a 3" converter and a full 3" catback.

for chips i use Pocket programmer 2 with winaldl and gmecmedit (now is powertuner or something)
regulator is easy to do. just read the article int the tech section.

You might want to check into this fuel pressure regulator: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...26&prmenbr=361
The regulator's base pressure is adjustable from 3 to 20 PSI but the optional high pressure spring (included) increases the range from 20 to 65 PSI.

i thought L98 heads ended in 083, what is the difference between the 191 and 083 heads.....
and by the way LB9 heads are 081 and the older HO pre 87 heads are 416.

The LB9 heads are casting # 14101081. These heads are very similar to the '416' casting heads except the '081' heads use centerbolt valve covers. They flow almost the same. They would be a definite step up from L03 swirl port heads.

That is what I am shooting for. I have another set that should get delivered to the house this week. Supposedly they are the '416' castings. We will see.

You can modify the stock FPR to be adjustable, I haven't done this, but I think I have my old stock one sitting around here somewhere that I wouldn't mind sacrificing to the TBI experiment gods of Arizona

Those heads will work nice for the price. If your going to the trouble of changing the cam atleast go with a LT1 cam. It's still very mild but will need some custom tuning. The L98 will be dissapointing after all the work it takes to change it. I wish I went bigger now and I've got the LT1. As far as headers the hooker's mentioned above or the slp's like I have are the best bet. Ceramic if you can afford it, alot more heat! Mine went in pretty easy and the paint on them has lasted much longer then my buddies other brand, his already have rust spots.
Also either do the free afpr mod in the tech articles or purchase a vAFPR which is the vacum assisted one from gm. I now have it and like it much better. Oh and might as well get a new intake since it has to come off anyway. Edelbrock TBI or an edelbrock performer rpm with a tbi adapter plate.
We finally got 93 octane in my town which actually made my car run alot better so I think I've got mid to low 14's right now so check the sig if that helps. That's with some custom tuning too.
Chuck how's yours coming along?
