At What Temp Does Our Single Fan Come?
Well it should'nt be long now before I've get the RS back to going. Today I was checking the fuel pressure and getting it in time(set it at 4*BTDC). I guess it set there running about 30-40mins and it got up to 220*F and the fan never came on(I did'nt think, untill now, about turning the AC on to see if that would force it on). At what tempture should the fan turn on, and what tempture does it turn off?
I just flushed the radiator out about a month back when I was putting every thing back together. Its got a 160* SuperStat in it that I drilled a 1/8" hole in to improve the flow and two bottles of Red Line Water Wetter. I also used jugs of distealed water to fill it up. So the cooling system should be up to par.
The only thing I can think of is that the coolant temp sensor that turns the fan on. Does anyone know where this sensor is? I know that there is two sensors one for the fan and one for the coolant guage. Or it could be the relay(I'll swap the AC relay around and check it) or even the fan motor its self.
I'm going out to check a few things now. I'll update ya after while. Any info ya can give would be nice though. Thanks, Bobby

Well the relays good. I did'nt start the car(its got no exhaust now)
but with the key on and the AC on it didn't come on. I tried the same thing in my '97 Z28 and its fan came on. So I'm sure that some sensor is bad. I need to know where the sensor is that turns on the fans, anyone know?
vjo90RS8,
I'm thinking about getting a switch for my car too. I was looking at a Jet Fan Switch(I've got one on my '97 Z28 and I love it). I'm not sure if its for a single fan though. Heres the info on it:
Pt#EC83 '83-'87 305-4bbl(LG4,L69), '86-'92 305 TPI with dual fans, '87-'92 350 TPI (B2L) with duel fans, '88-'92 305 TBI (L03) $52.00 ea. I saw this in a Year One catalog while I was looking for a coolant temp sensor, if it'll work I'm sure I can get it cheaper from Summit Racing.

Mine never came on till like....230*. I got tired of it overheating after my heater control valve blew up so I just ran a wire from the alternator and wired it on all the time. It usually runs between 150*-180* depending on the weather. I think stock is 220* or 240*, dunno for sure

fan switch is in the passenger side head. inbetween the 6th and 8th spark plug.
fan comes on at i think 220. and off at like 200.
i have a hypertech switch. on at 176 off at 166 i think.
and there i a fuseable link to the little junction block next to the battery. if it is blown, no fan.

The stock temp is at about 220 or so it kicks in (i think technically its like 218 or something, but just say 220) You can pick up a cooler temp switch for the fan at Napa. Just tell them what you have, what you are looking for and usually they have everything down to a 160* switch. First though are you absolutly sure your temp guage is accurate? I mean, these are gm products here, they may work forever and then some, but not always the most accurate electronics. (as is demonstrated by my factory l03 car that has a tach that revs to over 7k when the trans shifts from 1st to second, go figure. ) These cars
