LT1 Cam: Did you have to dremel down the dowel pin

Hey guys, I didn't do it because I wasn't aware that you had to, I'm wondering who did and who didn't. Mods: I just thought that this would over take the sticky one at the top, so I just thought we could link to this.

Thanks
Tony

Tony have ya started the engine up yet? if ya have and you dont have a hole rubbed in the timing cover i wouldnt worry about it, on the other hand when i did my install i just put it on the bench grinder till it looked like the peanut cam with sprocket. i measured the pin on the cam i got i had about 3/8 of it sticking out of the face of the sprocket so it had to come off.

I cut mine down. Took about a whoppin 2 seconds to do. You really need to. i do not think there is enough clearance between the pin and your timing chain cover. Just cut it off to match the pin on the stock cam. It takes just seconds.

I just tapped mine with the hammer and pushed it in a little farther - no problems and easier than cutting.

i did my first hott cam install this way but its too messy for the camshaft so now its easier to tap it down with a center punch, hammer and old timing gear...

tapping it down is okay but when it bottoms out like the one in my cam you have no choice.

I tried tapping mine down but it wouldn't move and I was afraid of mushrooming it to the point of not fitting the hole in the timing gear. I wrapped the cam with plastic wrap to keep grinding dust off, then ground the pin off.

Removed, cut with hacksaw, cleaned up with bench grinder, reinstalled, finished.

Cut down, installed .. four months later a hole formed in my timing cover, took it apart, hammered it back in, replaced cover, sold car.
