I have a 89 rs it has a 90 vette 350 using stock 89 rs heads, intake, exhaust manifold, but has the l-98 cam, it runs pretty strong and seems to work good with the ecm

So would it be more cost effective to swap to an L-98 or LT-1 cam as opposed to buying a performance cam from a manf. Like comp cams and what not. Was looking at some of CompCams High Energy and Dual Energy Cams. If anyone has had experience with these cams speak up. Any help would be great.

the only combo I have been able to come up with is the edelbrock 3702 cam and 3704 intake. 125.00 for the cam and 219 for intake, Jegs

The LT-1 cam is very popular with these engines, check out the sticky at the top of the TBI board.

i'm running and UltraDyne 272/282HR-12

it is 206/216 .447 .447 112

with the stock heads and intake it is actualy doing pretty good, it def. requires alot of tuning to get it right. with everything else stock, and that cam, with headers and catback, the tazzo is telling me 14.7 or so in the 1/4. i'm going to hit the track as soon as it opens and see what it runs.

UD is not in buisness anymore, but the cam designer works for Lunati now, you could probably call lunati and get this grind through them.

Purchasing an LT-1 cam 3-2-04. I will let you know how the swap goes. It will be my first swap of any kind so I hope it goes well.

I would really recomend getting a set of headers as fast as you can. The stock exhaust is garbage and cannot even support the stock heads and cam.

I have sent my STAGE 1 TBI chip back to TBI CHips. Brian said he would give me a deal. All I did was ship it to him and he is flashing it for the LT-1 cam specs for free. Saved me alot of money. I get the LT-1 cam, from a 95 z28, this tuesday. Hopefully will have the cam and new chip in by the end of this week or early next week.

I would still learn to burn your own chips. His chip will only get the car close and will not maximise your new cam.

it is taking ALOT of tuning, and don't try to get thorugh emmisions with it (ask me why the only place my car has gone in the last 3 weeks is the DEQ station)

but the cam makes great power.

UltraDyne is out of buisness, the cam designer now works for lunati, his name is Harold Brookshire, give lunati a call, and ask for him, tell him you are interested in his 272/282HR-12 UltraDyne Cam, he will hook you up.

That makes sense. At least you are aware of it. You car will still be very drivable with an off the shelf one. Plus I think you can send them back to him if it is bunk or really far off. I would try to at least datalong (free software) and send him that. That should help him get it even closer.

Hope So. I have to save up for a premade cable. Good thing my mom is buying a new laptop so I can have her old one for Data logging.

Last Reply to this topic. I am keeping full documentary of my cam swap and the ultimate TBI mods at my website crokiller.com I will try to keep it up to date. Before I start would it be a good idea to replace the gasket between the TBI unit and the intake.

Yes it would be. They get old and brittle over time and can cause leaks. You really want to replace every gasket that you expose on these cars.
